Amazon echo dot 2nd gen Pre-order $49.99

  • Last Updated:
  • Apr 12th, 2018 4:33 pm
Thread Summary
Amazon Echo ecosystem is finally launching in Canada on Dec 05.

It's now possible to pre-order equipment from Amazon.ca, The Source, Telus, and other vendors.

There are pre-order discounts in effect. Dot for C$50, Echo for $100, and Echo Plus for $180.

Currently, the best deal (better than shopping in US) is from Telus: Echo including one year of Amazon Prime bonus for C$99. If you need multiple Echo Dots, sign up for TheSource VIP email and get a $25 discount on $100 orders, and order two Dots for $75 with filler item.

The Echo ecosystem also now allows Canadian accounts and addresses.

Damn it, I don't want to spend any money today... well I guess, as a preorder, won't be spending until Dec 5th anyhow.

If I have Google Home, can I run this, as well, or will it cause confusion to the network? Bought GH but haven't set it up yet.
The first rule of RFD is, you do not talk about RFD.

The second rule of RFD is, you DO NOT talk about RFD.

Yup. FINALLY.

Echo, echo dot and echo plus available in Canada. Launch date is Dec 5th.

$100 for the echo
$170 for the echo plus

Looks like $30 off of each unit as an intro price

I have like 4 echo dots and a GH and they run perfectly together. It’s when you have a GH and a google voice assistant on a shield that things start getting confusing...

I wonder if these will ever go on sale in Canada, since they just released? I know in the USA for blackberry friday they will have sales for it. But right now at regular price its cheaper in Canada, $50 CAD vs $50 USD.

Have one I got brand new for 20$ from a person who didn't know what to do with it. Got two more thanks OP!

I can control everything with this, I have it open my tv and ask what I want to watch (specific channel, Plex, YouTube, netflix), control my thermostat, lights, tons more... Great item.

Currently have 2 dots in our smaller home. 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the basement living room. They can basically cover our whole home but just ordered a heather grey echo to place in the kitchen and move that dot to the bedroom. Looking forward to using the bigger echo for some music while cooking and such.

Yes. You have to select it though. That seems to be a pretty decent deal with the bulb for 170

Echo dot allows me to custom code input and output voice commands, does Google home have that same capability?

For $50 CAD, it's a good deal. I picked up a few in the states and have one working at home now controlling kitchen, living room, back and front lights. Well worth it compared to the prices years ago
for home automation.

A buddy of mine spent over $1000 for 2 switches (Lutron) that are dimmable....while the TP-Link switches (no hub required) is not dimmable, for $50, can't complain. I'll order a few more. Although I'm always
across getting beer anyway (Buffalo), saves the drive.

How does the Echo Dot compare to the Google Home Mini? I'm looking to get either one to pair with my Google Home.

Wat
Google should really lower their mini price to $50 to compete. I would like to try google but not for $30 more.

In terms of relative value vs US Black Friday pricing;

Echo ..... CAD ....... USD => FX rate (spot = 1.275)
Dot .... $ 49.99 .... 29.99 => 1.6667
Echo .. $ 99.99 .... 79.99 => 1.2500 (RV winner)
Plus ... $169.99 .. 119.99 => 1.4167

Shipping not incl.

Updated with Staples $10 off $100 if you can apply it.
TurboTronix wrote: Just cancelled my order with Amazon since Staples has these as well, 2 X Dots plus 10$ coupon...
Echo ..... CAD ....... USD => FX rate (spot = 1.275)
Dot .... $ 89.98 .... 59.98 => 1.4998 (must buy 2 + a filler which I did not incl in the calc)
Echo .. $ 89.99 .... 79.99 => 1.1250 (Must add a filler which I did not incl in the calc - still the RV winner)
Plus ... $154.99 .. 119.99 => 1.2917 (Applying a readily available $15 off $150 cpn)
csmdaye2 wrote: The Source also has these available for pre order at the intro price. Can confirm that the 25 off 100 works. Placed an order for the Amazon echo, added 99 cent batteries. Total came to $90.25 .

Update #2 applying the $25 off $100 thesource cpn

Echo ..... CAD ....... USD => FX rate (spot = 1.275)
Dot .... $ 74.98 .... 59.98 => 1.2501 (must buy 2 + a filler which I did not incl in the calc)
Echo .. $ 74.99 .... 79.99 => 0.9375 (Must add a filler which I did not incl in the calc - now this is HOT based on the FX equivalent)
Plus ... $144.99 .. 119.99 => 1.2084

All better than shopping in the US. Maybe Staples.com will have a cpn too?

What's the difference between Google Home and the Echo products?

Just the same but different brands? Excuse my ignorance

Thanks!

How do you get it to ask what you want? I use it to turn on my TV too but I've never had it ask ME what I want.
