[Amazon Canada] Amazon Fire HD Tablet 7"/8" now available in Canada $59.99/$99.99

Thread Summary
The Amazon Fire HD Tablets are a string of low-cost tablets that are primarily marketed in the United States.

This is significant because it allows Canadians to purchase the tablets through Amazon Canada directly, avoiding the need for a reseller or international customs.

The Amazon Fire HD beats well above its price point because of the extensive community support behind the product, given how popular and pervasive this device is. Numerous guides exist on topics such as how to root it, install Play store, etc. People are actively trying to unlock the bootloader on this device as well. You should take advantage of this community support by installing Google Play store, and replacing the Amazon Fire launcher (which is, by consensus, very bad), with something like Nova Launcher, which restores the tablet to a more pure, vanilla experience traditionally associated with AOSP.

The Amazon Fire line of tablets are generally not meant to compete with higher priced tablets, but used as secondary tablets, used by Kids, or for risky situations (for when risk of theft/loss is high, for example, in use in the bathtub, or when traveling to the United States). They can be used as a primary tablet if you don't have high needs (e.g. gaming).

The screens on Amazon Fires tend to be subpar, however. Those looking for Full HD or vibrant screens, should look elsewhere.

How does this compare to the Lenovo Tablet 10 (X103F)?

Picked up the 10 inch in the US for $99 on Black Friday came upto about $140 CAD. Google pulled YouTube but tbh you can just install the Play store on the tablet and you have access to thousands of apps

This looks like its a 7th generation version. Anyone know if it will do Alexa? I googled and didn't see any reference to this one sold in Canada.

What kind of OS does it run? Will it be able to mirror to TV thru Chromecast?

How is this even possible? they still think a resolution of 1024 x 600 (7) or 1280 x 800 (8) can sell in 2017?

Kobo 7 HD came out in August 2013 and it had 1920 x 1200...

Guys,

I had an Ipad air 32 GB but the fiancee broke it, how does this compare?
Sorry about the NEWB question.
We tried a Samsung Galaxy Tab E but it was very sluggish and returned it

Thanks in advance

It runs Fire OS. It's a customized skin overlayed over top of Android 5 I think it is.

My brother sent me one for Hanukwanzmas last year.

Thanks OP.
Please correct the title though, it is a "tablet" not a "table".

Bought 2 of these 32gb ones for $34 USD from Amazon warehouse in the states which turned out to be new. These are not worth $130. If you want a $100 tablet there are better choices out there. Also no where near an iPad.

For $50USD it isn't bad.

You serious? You need to look at $400+ options to be comparable.
