I bought the 3 laser from Staple last Christmas for my daughter. In Feb this year it started rebooting itself. In early March it would shut down and she had to manually turned it back on. In mid March it was completely dead.
I got the the RMA and dropped it off at their Markham office. It took them 3 days to have it "rebuild". Replaced the mother board and sub board. I was really disappointed that it died in less than 3 months.
I was going to get one for myself at first. After this experience I don't think so.
Maybe we were lucky to get a lemon. Nonetheless just my experience. YMMV
Seems like some Asus phones might have quality issues. I had to have my Zenfone 2 serviced twice, eventually got it replaced. I got tired of having to deal with Asus and sold that replacement. A few months later the buyer let me know the phone had died. A friend also bought a Zenfone 2 and also had to send it in for service.

On the other hand I have a couple friends with Zenfone 3s (non-laser) and they haven't had any problems yet.

Zenfone 3 are really good phones, but this "Laser" variant is not fast enough for power users.
After my phone was destroyed last week I was looking for a quick cheap replacement that I needed asap. I wanted the phone in the OP but ended up going with the Asus Liquid Zest plus from Costco.

For $200 the specs are very similar and it came with a cover and 90 days of no hassle to return

edit: sorry I was comparing with the Zenfone 3 max. The Laser is generally a better phone than the liquid zest plus but was not worth the extra $60 for me due to the 2GB ram

The new Zenfones are pretty nice when you remove the bloatware.

Are these options available locally with manufacturer warranty ?
I would lean in the direction of no for local availability, and the possibility for manufacturer warranty? I'd give it a stretch to maybe (it is Lenovo after all).

However, the way I see it, I'm getting flagship components for literally a quarter of the price so I'm willing to take that gamble. Not to mention the amount of research I put into phones before I purchase them, especially from China. In the past I was all Nexus due to their price/performance ratio...but that all changed with the Nexus 5X and then the Pixel line...

Great looking phone, but the lack of Rogers LTE killed it for me.

You mean it won't work on Rogers LTE network?
Are you sure it doesn't? I just checked willmyphonework.net and it seems to work for both Rogers and Fido. Personally, I'm on Koodo and get full LTE so don't have real world experience with Rogers on it.

After some expensive and lengthy lessons, I won't buy another Chinese phones because they are more headache than anything. I rather pay a bit more to grab some deals down in the south (like $199 G4 Plus I just got). I am also into ROM flashing and none of these except the Moto suits my need.

At least if I don't like it or something is wrong, I get warranty.

2GB is plenty for average user, it doesn't make a difference for day to day to use.

Acer Liquid Zest. And be glad of the Costco return period.

I bought this. Updates immediately to Nougat 7.0. Absolutely nothing wrong with this. A FHD display? Nice. I think it's comical people scoffing at a $249 smartphone. Go ahead and support no name whatever phones that offer the world. Asus knows how to design nice looking hardware that's for sure. It's better to read what owners of the phone say rather than some random misc nonsense about a phone they released 4 years ago or other shallow views. The Amazon.ca reviews say a lot. It's a #2 seller. People who bought it have a lot of good things to say about it. At $249, this is worthwhile. My advice is to by the Qosea clear case which is ultra thin but does offer at least some protection. You can always find some junk for cheaper prices no matter what kind of product you're talking about. Always keep that in mind.
I have Zenfone 2/3 laser and for the money paid am very happy .Purchased both from Staples outlet Ebay (surplusbydesign )store at great discounts.
Couldn't find another 5.5 in.screen with dual sims for the money.

Granted it was around 849$ new. But Market value atm is about 195/200$ so compared that to 249+tax, not sure this 2GB BNIB is worth it.

LeEco Le Max 2 has a SD820 CPU with 4 gigs ram, 64 gigs storage, dual SIM, 5.7" 2k, and it can be got for $260.
Thanks.

I was really considering the Zenphone 3, but this also looks impressive. Banggood lists the price at $271 CDN which would be cheaper than the $250 + Tax for the Zenphone Laser. Is Bangood the most reputable and cheapest place to pick one up? I'm replacing an aging Nexus 4.
