The average price for panini press seems to be around $40 to 60. How is this one better, than let's say: https://www.amazon.ca/Salton-SG1263-Sta ... 0095GOAUQ/

That was just an example, but there are plenty of others in that price range.
Manual temperature controls with multiple setting and reversible griddles (2 different types on the box)

Is the flat plate just not the backside of the 'panini plate'. It says the plates are reversible and I can't imagine they'd sell it as a griddle but force you to buy a different set of plates to make that happen.
According to this the plates are reversible. Used to be 2 different plates but I guess a reversible one is better for storage

I've had mine for quite a few years now...like 8ish years. Still works great. The teflon has rubbed off on the edges of the 'grill' plate, and the dials aren't really readable any more, but asides from that it has been a solid performer. As I said above I've got the grill plates, waffle plates, and the flat plates. Works great with a grill plate on one side, and a flat one on the other. Eggs on one, sausage on the other.

Can someone tell me if I can also use these for dry toasting the bread?

Many of them have manual temperatures... I think it's original price is overpriced.

And why do top reviews on Amazon say it doesn't hold the heat?
I got Fido and Public Mobile. [removed solicitation] ????

Maybe they are like that now a days, but my flat and grill plates are separate plates. I picked mine up like 8-ish years ago.

Possibly, but I wouldn't do it. You would squish your toast if that's what you're thinking.

Thanks my friend. I was hoping to buy a toaster+Panini maker all in one.. (I wonder if such a thing even exists!)

Looks like a George Foreman grill. I didn’t care for it. Found it a bit of pain to clean. Despite the non stick endorsement by the companies.

In this price range, I noticed all of them have non-amovible plates, which is a PITA to clean vs. removing the plates and clean them away in the sink.

Price match Home Depot @ Lowe's for a total of 61$ taxes included.

Nepean HD & Orleans HD has it for 59.98$ on sale. Seems store specific.

We luv it. Plates are easily removed and cleaned and are reversible with one side smooth the other grooved. Grease or liquid runs off the plates thru a notch and collect in a removable catch basin. The thing also operates fully open( flat) like a grill or folded! Great price too....

If only it had sandwich toaster plates (NOT Panini squashers!)
It's reversible, one side is flat
