for those that have had the Nvidia shield - how does this compare as far as video quality ?

I have a shield but is overkill for what I do with it (Netflix/kodi/prime) and I don't use it for gaming

I'm generally in the same boat.. wondering whether or not to return the Shield but have until end of Jan to decide I guess...
The Shield is a gaming console first and everything else second. It's the equivalent of buying an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo just to stream movies and TV shows.

thanks but I should have been more specific - I meant to ask if the fire stick could do DTS-X which I have found out that it cant.

it also doesn't do Atmos in Kodi which sucks but what can you expect for $50 !

This Firestick 4K is awesome. Tried streaming a 50gb 2160p Blu-Ray Remux using Kodi and it played perfectly fine. Also handled the Dolby Atmos 7.1 audio fine.

Glad I saved the money and went with this over the NVIDIA shield.

hi can you elaborate on the 'handled dolby atmos audio fine' statement ?

from what i understood this stick does not passthrough atmos or dts-x - only if using certain apps like amazon prime

What's your setup like? How are you streaming?

Does it handle DTS HD MA fine ?

Looking to get the fire stick for the same purpose

For those who don't check the black friday forum, the $49.99 Black Friday price for the 4K Stick is now live! Order yours now.

What's interesting is the Basic stick isn't on sale so both are the same price. Also the new Alexa remote is only $10 cheaper than the 4k Stick which includes the same remote.

I use it mostly for a Bell Fibe App. I dont have to spend 200+ for a box or rent one.
How do you switch channels with this on the Bell Fibe app? Do you need to scroll and click or is there an easier way?

Pretty much Just like a Bell remote. Dont think there is an easier way, not sure if you can use Alexa on the app, I doubt it.

So you can go directly to a channel without using the guide?

Oh no. Not that I know of anyway. Maybe you can do with Alexa? I havent tried. You can go channel by channel using the arrow buttons. But that's about it. No record button either. It's pretty much like the mobile app.
That said, I'm a big fan of it, it's pretty smooth. I would love to use Alexa with it, like I do with my Xbox/Bell box. Also there is no PIP when you're on the guide nor can you pause or rewind live TV. But I heard they're working on that.
