[Amazon.ca] La Crosse BC500 smart AAA/AA charger

Good price on a good charger. It only charges at 500mA but it charges each battery individually and tells you lots of info about each one. Comes with a pair of AA NiMH batteries and a car charger. The La Crosse BC700 charger (which I have) is also on sale for $43.25 if you want more charging options.

This is an incredible product. You can charge batterie one by one, even ie 2 AA and 1 AAA at the same time.
It will also test batteries, I really recommend it.

At this price and if you have a lot of older AA/AAA batteries (ie the ones that don't seem to hold much of a charge anymore), this is a great deal as the charger will:

1. Refresh batteries in order to see if it can maximize the remaining life on the battery;
2. Test the capacity of the battery so that you can compare it to the rated life when it was new and let you know which ones can't be saved.

The only downside to LaCrosse chargers is the batteries that they come with - they are (*&(*. While they will work initially, their service life (ie how many years of use you'll get out of them) is terrible.

If not these can anyone recommend a charger that will do 18650 as well.

This charger does have a "charge", "discharge then charge", and "test" mode. But no "refresh" mode—you will need the BC700 or BC1000 charger for that.

I find I'm buying more devices that take 18650 and other rechargeables these days.

Basically using the 'discharge then charge' mode for two or three cycles will do most of what 90+% of what the refresh mode does. I have a BC1000 and I can tell you that after two or three discharge/charge cycles in the refresh mode, the gains of doing additional cycles isn't worth the time.

And BTW> I didn't say that it has a refresh mode but that it can refresh batteries.

Most combo NiMH/Li-ION chargers basically combine something like a BC500 with a cheap 'just charge' 18650 charger. They won't give you a capacity value for a 18650 as they won't test them for capacity. I purchased a MC3000 last year that does all of that but it ain't cheap!

Im still waiting for a deal on this ultimate charger. Like everyone here, its better to have an all-in one charger than just for AA/AAA only.

The Nitecore i4 intellicharger was decent from what I read, they've gone up in price though. Never owned one so can't say if it won't burn your house down, I'd image there are rebranded versions since these could be had on aliexpress/ebay back in the day for $20

The current best charger that does it all, including NiMH and rechargeable Li-ions like 18650, is the Opus BT - C3100 V2.2 from one of the Chinese sites. Around $40-50 depending on sale/promotion. Completely worth it.

I agree.
I was going to suggest the same.

If you don't care about refresh or discharge features, the XTAR VC2 plus does both 18650 and NiMH batteries, and is pretty inexpensive on eBay. I got two late last year for less than $20 each. Otherwise, that Opus BT looks pretty appealing, assuming it works as advertised.
