[Amazon.ca] MSI GT 1030 2GH 2GB Low Profile Graphics Card for HTPC - $104 - Prime Members Only

This is a great video card for home theater PC's or those older computer that can only use a half height video card. This will also work if you are driving some large monitors and want a no noise video card as this is passive cooled. It will run some basic games. It is also bus powered and low power consumption. This price takes video card pricing back to "reasonable". I have this in a small form factor build driving two 2560 x 1440 monitors without any problem. Many retailers are selling this for $145.

Note: there are 2 versions of this card. This has the faster GDDR5 video memory.

Thanks, I may grab one. I recently bought a 710 but the fan is driving me nuts. Can only drop it to 50% and its still loud compared to the rest of my desktop. The fact that this has no fans will make it worth it.

The GT 710 or 1030 are good enough cards to push the Asus VA32AQ 32" monitor at 1440p with custom refresh rates (e.g. 72Hz, 74Hz). Don't expect to do any serious gaming on either.

If you want to game, go for the 1050 or 1050ti as an entry level. It's not much more expansive and it has some gaming potential.
The 1030 is a good choice to drive high resolution for video playback and that's pretty much it.

I would recommend to do some research, I remember reading that Nvidia requires a GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card or higher with at least 3GB of RAM to stream 4K Netflix videos.

Needed a card which can output to 3 monitors. Not this one, as it maxes out at 2. Also, this is not SLI capable.

I think it'll decode 4k hevc, it just can't encode it. I could be wrong though. Either way, i don't really know why anyone would buy this card unless you don't even have integrated graphics and you just want the bare minimum.

It appears that 4K HTPCs run with the GT 1030, but 4K Netlfix does not.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like it will do 4K Plex so that’s good enough plus I have a Roku Ultra that will do 4K Netflix anyways.

Why are you even considering this card for a multi monitor set up?!

I used to have a GT1030 and returned it. When using it with MPC-BE and MadVR, it would stutter and freeze if I tried to fast forward, jump to another chapter, or even moved the mouse around. The 2 GB of ram will not allow any madVR enhancements for upconversion, HDR to SDR, etc. and I could see it dropping frames in the stats window.

If you use it watch 4K files on a 4k monitor, it will work and the picture is quite nice. Another good thing is that the card does have hardware decoding so even a low-end 1150 cpu will work in addition to passing HD audio (TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc.).

One other "huge" positive for me is the MSI cards are the only 1030 cards with a displayport and hdmi. Most other cards has an HDMI and DVI which may not work for everyone. I run this card with 2 Asus 31.5" monitors with 2560 x 1440 resolution. Works fine. I play Civilization V and the card heats up but the game is still playable if you set up AfterBurner correctly. Love the "no fan noise" for sure. If you understand the cards limitations and can work well within that...I think its a great card for the current price. I would imagine you could PM at Memory Express and get the price down to $100!

Will it do 4k @ 60fps? There's no answer to this in the specs or datasheet on MSI's website.

Seems to be at least double the price.
