You're getting at least 290mbps wireless???? If so, assume you have gigabit internet?

Install the Extender as an Access Point
You can cable your extender to your existing router and then set up the extender in access point mode to work to create a new WiFi hotspot.

but
In access point mode, you can connect your computer or WiFi device to the extender only using a WiFi connection.

I have 250/20 from Rogers. With speed burst 320 is what I get wired in (for the first 100mb anyway) so it works out to be 290 on this extender. It's great. (I do network design for a living so this is my forte)

I bought the EX6200 on Black Friday for $84.99. Best Buy had it for $89.99.The EX7000 was also on sale on Black Friday for $125 on Amazon and $130 at Best Buy. I refrained from upgrading to the EX7000 as the difference is really small, as per the below, and I felt for $40, it wasn't worth it:

EX6200
AC1200 (300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz + 900 Mbps on 5 GHz)
800 MHz dual core processor
2 antennas
Red Case

EX7000
AC1900 (600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz + 1300 Mbps on 5 GHz)
1 GHz Dual core processor
3 antennas
Black Case

With that said, with the difference now only being $30, I just submitted my return on the 6200 and ordered the 7000, too close of a price and the benefits of the above make it pretty future proof for a few years. Of course, you are limited by your internet speed so no one is going to reach 1300 Mbps, you'll likely be hitting 100 if you pay for the best internet connection.

If you want to save $30, the EX6200 is also one of the best extenders ever made, reviews are amazing:

Yes, I had the EX6200 previously too and was quite satisfied with it. However, for only $25 more you get a better model.

It appears there is no bridge mode to select, but I don't want it to re broadcast the signals. It does have the options to turn off the radios, I wonder if that means it will just stop the re broadcasting or it'll disable the wireless function completely. I kniow I can get the R7000 for the job, but if this work, I can save a few bucks.

Yeah, I love NETGEAR extenders, I find they work really well, I am replacing an old N extender so already, the EX6200 has been a huge improvement, and Amazon is letting me return it even though I opened it.

Thanks for posting this link, I really appreciate it!

Question: I am looking to get an access point as I am happy keeping using my current router for the wired clients. Is this (or even the EX6200) better than just getting an AC router? I know I can config any wifi router to act as AP. These days it seems cheaper to buy a router than an extender or AP. For example:

Netgear EX7000 (AC1900) -- $114.99
Netgear EX6200 (AC1200) -- $89.99
Dlink DIR-859 (AC1750) -- $79.99 -- picked this up black Friday still unopened

So the AC1750 router I got is actually cheaper than the 2 extenders on sale, and better spec than the EX6200. What gives? What am I giving up here if my use case is just AP and not actual wifi extender?

I have the EX6200 set up as an wifi access point. This thing has crazy range.....pretty much covers the whole house if you put it on the main floor.
For 30 more, I'd get the nighthawk.

Price Beat @ Best Buy and get it for $113.49
the above is Amazon's Cyber Week deal
Best buy and Staples
don't price match Cyber Monday / Week Deals
6.The product’s price must not be lower due to an advertising error, misprint, or special sale price.
Special sale prices include: Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Boxing Day, special educational prices, restricted offers, mail order offers, rebates, coupons, premiums, free or bonus offers, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) prices, close-outs, liquidations, clearances, and financing offers.
SO YMMV for price match

Does this need to be plugged in to cat5 network cable to work or does it extend the range simply though a power plug?

Simply though power plug. But need to be in the range of your wifi signal
you can also plug Cat 5 cable if you want.

I just got a successful PM at staples and used the $10 off $100 coupon they sent me this morning. No issues with the PM. And really there shouldn't be PM concerns as a) the policy clearly states Cyber Monday (which is over) and b) the sale for the EX7000 at amazon.ca is just a regular sale without any time limit or quantity restrictions. The PM policy never mentions "Cyber week"

thanks op for the deal!

+1 This is just a regular Amazon Sale. The item is not listed in the Cyber Week for sale.
