You only get the rechargeable remote with the old 2015 16GB model and the Shield Pro model.
I own both the remotes and use neither of them lol.

I love Plex. But Kodi lets you stream ANY AND ALL content for free.
? So does Plex, I don't pay for anything.

Is this necessary if one has an android smart TV? not sure what all the buzz on RFD is about this product. Genuinely curious.
I have a Shield TV as well as a Sony Android TV. The Shield is far superior, in my opinion. I bought the Shield before the TV. I rarely use the Android part of the Sony. The Shield is far more responsive. I would still buy one we’re I not now mainly using an Apple TV 4K. The Shield, Apple TV and Fire TV products are all excellent media players. The Shield and Apple TV are in a class of their own, from my perspective. They do cost at around double the typical Fire TV product. The problem with the Fire TV is the increasing presence of ads.

But Plex requires a Plex Media Server. Neither Kodi nor MrMC ( similar to Kodi but supported by top zen Kodi developers) require one.

How is 4K streaming using kodi?
My pc is underpowered for transcoding 4K with plex.

Right now I’m using my built in video player on a B6 OLED with an external HDD.

For those of you wondering about a remote, you can buy a Flirc USB adapter for $30 on Amazon and use any remote to control the interface. I'm doing this with my Harmony 650.

Is this able to do anything that an Xbox One + Digital tuner , and Fire Stick can't?

Just curious, what benefit one would find in Nvidia shield over picking up a pre-built office desktop running i5-2400 and 8gig ram and slapping gtx 1050 which supports 4K hdr 10bit. I'm not concerned about power efficiency. The 1050 + pre-built combo would come to $270 vs this $180, so the difference is $90 more, but you get much more flexibility and full PC.

I'm not trying to criticize shield, just seriously thinking about picking it up, but just wondering why? over HTPC with gtx1050.

Netflix 4k + HDR. Windows still can't do HDR properly.

I thought you can get 4K netflix using edge or MSstore netlix app? I'm not too worried about HDR at the moment.

The great thing about the remote is that you don't need to look at it to use it, that simple.
