These are open back headphones if anyone is wondering. I use these for home use not outdoors.

Also since the 3.5MM is detachable I added a mic that can connect 3.5mm to both sides and it became my gaming headset.

are these better than hd598se?
Pretty similar sound overal, although I perfer them for comfort and ability to use a v-moda boom mic.. great for gaming.

not exactly sure what's the difference between SHP9500 and SHP9500S, i think i read somewhere the 'S' version is a stripe down version that is not as sturdy and comfortable. anyway, i bought a 'S' version several years ago from newegg for $65, i think i have seen them going to as low as $60. the build, comfort, sound quality is excellent for $65. and like someone mentioned above, it's open back. we can't go back in time, but as far as i can remember, newegg have it on sale every now and then, so may as well wait till BF or BD if you don't need it right away

Bought these from mass drop about 4 years ago. Super comfortable and good sounding.

One difference between the regular and “s” version is the cable length it comes with. The original has a very long cord.

Here is a reddit thread from a few years back comparing the differences.

Hello I.T.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
