I like HD650 more, they have better bass than hd600, sometimes you can find them on Kijiji cheaper than this offer.

Don't forget these are 300 Ohm and a standard headphone jack on your computer or phone will struggle to drive them.

They will need a decent headphone amp to truly shine.

If you are considering this I would take a look at the Massdrop HD6xx. @$199 USD (plus shipping and like $45 tax) it’s arguably a better headphone at a better price.

Yes. The lowest ever was $299. $340 after tax. I remember biting on them the moment I saw them. Ended up buying an HD650 cord to replaced the HD600 cord. Along with a DAC. But IMO this is a pretty good deal with the way our dollar is atm. Not sure about HD600 vs HD6X0 quality. But I am in bliss when listening to music with them. I just close my eyes and i feel like I am in the front row.

I also bought all variations of the 598s too. In the good ol days it was $99 plus tax. I recall paying $113 for the original HD598(Biege), HD598SE (black) and HD598Cs. I still have the OG and the closed backs for when listening with my phone or travelling.

I prefer the warmth of senns. Probably because I mostly listen to rock and music where they use real instruments and untuned vocals.

FWIW, the actual historic low of the HD600 was $299 a few years ago as a lightning deal. Camel doesn't track lightning deals properly.
If it was more than 2 years ago the Canadian dollar may still be on par with USD. The current HD600 deal is $250 on amazon.com which converts to $367 Canadian. So this may still be a comparable deal depends on the dollar conversion.

Yes the dollar was a bit better, but the point is, don’t rely on camel for historical lows. It completely misses lightning deals which are a significant source of hot deals at amazon

RFD is not just about saving money, it's about the thrill of the hunt and not paying full price like Joe Shmoe did. This applies to everyday items as well as high end items that I don't really need.

Already own Hifiman Ananda's and Audeze LCD2 Classics. Would this headphone complement those?

I don't think we're disagreeing, I did say own for a while which appears to be what you did :).

Part of the reason for my comment was the fact this price range is where one starts really seeing massive differences in sound quality and other attributes as you play with different types of DACs, amps, etc...
It's a good place to start the journey and understand what you like or don't like. Every headphone gets compared to these at some point because so many people have them so it's helpful to know what they sound like to help you on your upgrade journey.

I completely agree that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, just a point of reference to make the journey easier to navigate and if you like what you hear, keep it in the collection.

Which headphones did you end up with after upgrading from the DT880? Grados?

Cheers,

I disagree. Everyone has different taste, and I was completely let down by the HD6XX after people hyped it up so much. I wasn't in love with the HD600 either.

One thing to point out for those who are thinking of buying, you need to get an external source if you're using it with the computer or you'll hear a lot of noise. A basic DAC/amp will cost 100-150.

Coming from the LCD2 Classic, you may find these a little bass light so "complement" is possibly right :).

If you are contemplating these, an alternative is the Massdrop HD58x at $149 US which is currently in stock
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x ... headphones

There will be shipping ($10 i think) and possibility of taxes on top of that. It should still end up being cheaper than the $367. It's a variation of the sennheiser 6 series and very well reviewed on Headfi.org.

I have a pair and love them. These are also easier to drive than the HD600 or HD650 as they are 150 ohm instead of 300 ohm, so an external dac/amp may not be required. They sound phenomenal from both my LG v30 and Iphone 7.

There are 2 completely different cans. One is wireless BT and very convenient the other is audiophile grade which will need amp to shine.

I use HD650 with Denon receiver which works fine.

Also guys, even the massdrop HD6XX (which is closer to 650) will cost you $199 USD plus shipping and duty. The HD600 is only 250 USD after conversion. So for about the same price you get the original versuon, 2 day shipping, no duty surprise, and Amazon warranty.

If I'm looking for a cordless audiophile headset, what would you recommend? Or does that not exist

Sorry I have no experience in that. All my headphones are weird. I only use BT earbud for podcasts.

The PXC550 is a master of convenience with very decent sound quality. I have quite a few sets of cans that are more expensive and better for pure music listening but for everything else, I tend to quickly grab the PXC550 and don’t miss my higher end sets.

If your priority is for hooking up a dac and getting an amp for the purpose of 2 channel music enjoyment, the hd600 is the easy choice. For everything else like hooking up to the random tablet or DAP via Bluetooth with decent sound quality and ultimate convenience, the PXC550 is massively underrated.

Of course whether you like the actual sound or not is a different issue, go in stores and try them out.
