The folks with issues, is it due to using non tplink firmware?

I've had the C7 v2 for years now and it's been a great router for me. It did slow down over the last few months but I updated the firmware and its as good as new if not better.

I bought it from BestBuy and was successfully able to price match. No issues and super fast. I just showed the website off of my phone to the cashier.

Mine was TP link firmware only. No 3rd party used.

The two I was testing (from Bestbuy - I still have them) were running the second last firmware release from TP-Link. I then upgraded to the latest version (Canadian - Not US). They went from being flaky to downright unreliable and completely erratic.

I caved in bought it. I had tried installing Tomato on my RT-N12 D1 and it didn't really help my speeds much. Was only getting 50% on my ip6. Now I got the C7 and it's tucked away and I'm getting my max speeds. I also PM'ed at BB with the wally link. Quick in and out. Curious though, why does BB have one staff per every square metre? This store was dead. I doubt it sees traffic that equals the number of staff there.

Firmware version out of the box: 3.14.3 Build 150520 Rel.44934n

If you don't have phone with you and/or can't show BB the link, simply ask BB to search Walmart site for "TP-LINK AC1750 Gigabit router"...... the $70 one will show, but not the $120 one

Today, I had a few minutes to spare on trying yet again to get both my C7 v2 routers to run reliably. I've updated both to DD-WRT v3.0-r31899 std. So far, so good but I'll stress test them over a few days and see how they do and I'll update this thread on my findings if anyone wants to know. I'm only allowing 5Ghz AC and compared to my last configuration, I'm no longer bridging them together. Instead, I'm using MoCA adapters to bridge my third floor office to the first floor (core of my network). In the default DD-WRT config, they are both set at a channel width of Full (20Mhz), which understandably has cut raw throughput to about 1/4 (or less) of what I had before but I don't really care as long as they are stable. Channel width can be tweaked later if they prove they are stable.

Firmware

The latest official Canadian FW for the Archer C7 is Archer C7(CA)_V2_161031 dated Oct 30-2016. The US site is showing a FW Version of Archer C7(US)_V2_170525 dated July 24-2017. My preference is to stay with factory authorized FW updates. Does anyone know how long it takes for country specific FW updates to get released?

I had the same errors where my 5GHz kept dropping.
I contact their support and they sent me a beta firmware (that isn't public yet) - that solved the problem for me.
I recall someone sharing this beta firmware on some forum somewhere as well, I don't remember the link though.
