Zojirushi Micom water boiler and warmer has a micro computerized temperature control and electric dispensing system. It has four keep warm temperature settings: 140, 175, 195, 208 degree F. This unit displays actual water temperature at all times. It is also has an energy saving timer function (6 - 10 hours) - automatically turns on the boiler at a later time to save electricity. Steam-save function automatically lowers the power just before boiling to reduce the amount of stem emitting from the steam vent. Cafe' drip dispensing mode decreases the amount of water dispensed to 60% of the normal setting, making it suitable for brewing cafe' drip coffee.

What's the benefit of this over a $20 kettle? Is it just ready heated water?

I think it stays hot all day (during waking hours) every day, so if you want tea/noodle soup at some random time you can just dispense instant hot water whenever you feel like it.

It is very useful if you are brewing differents types of teas. Black tea is usually served with boiling water while green tea is better when it is warm. Also, they keep the temperature for an extended time so you don't have to heat up again. You can pick other brands (Rosewill at newegg.ca) for cheaper if you can't justify the price.

As for the deal, it is just okay. It's been cheaper before and I bought it below 90 bucks a year ago. http://ca.**************.com/product/B0011528S0

I don't understand why it is in the boxing day 2012 deals sub-forum. I thought Amazon.ca boxing week sale hasn't started yet...

Does the energy saving timer kick in automatically every night or do you have to manually press it everytime?

Seems like the deal is over as there is no option for the lightening deal price any more.

I have a higher model, LOVE it. It's used 24/7, with Brita filtered water I have NEVER had to clean it either.
Having hot water at your fingertips is great, I would not want to go without it.
