I didn't know about the 60$ limit because before I bought some other stuff for my car radio. They worth for around 260$ US, the guy put for 100$ and I didn't pay any customs.
The reason I don't deal with UPS/DLH/Fedex is because of their high brokerage fee. I now I can declare it myself I've seen it on TV but I don't know it seems to much trouble. I'd rather pay 20$ of extra shipping and not deal with declaring it myself.
Anyway even after taxes and shipping, most car radio stuff is much cheaper when bought in the states. The only thing I bought here was my radio deck and my sub which both where on deal at FS.

It's just the exemption limits. Most people don't seem to know them, and then get mad when taxes and duty are rightfully collected.
In general (neglecting special cases), when importing if the value of goods is CAD$20 or less, it's exempt. If the value is CAD$60 and it's marked as a gift (WITH PROOF INCLUDED WITH THE PACKAGE), it's exempt. Anything else, and they have the right to charge you. Sometimes you get lucky, but that doesn't mean it was exempt._______________
Rock it.

Actually, in my experience, the $20 or $60 exemption values do play a role for more expensive items. The value of those items are subtracted by the exemption values.
So for example, if you have a $200 item, marked as gift, then you will only be taxed on $140 (200-60). This saves you at least a few bucks, if you didn't get lucky enough for them to skip the taxing entirely.

This is as useless as the Newegg Canadian launch.
Isn't it odd we can get free shipping from CHINA, but we get raped on the same bloody continent?

I added several electronic products from the "Electronics Available for International Shipping" pages, but when I go to Checkout, they tell me the product cannot be shipped to my address. Huh...

Tried some outdoor power tools that are not readily available in Canada...again..no go..not available for shipping to Canada!
All these exclusions must be due to warranty/territory issues.
Excited about this when I first saw it but it is now time to ignore...

Has anyone used a post-office box (P.O. box) in an American town close to where you live to receive items ordered from Amazon?
Amazon does ship most items to P.O. box as per this page
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...?nodeId=468636
I know it's a hassle with the drive and the borders but if the savings are substantial and you don't get dinged on the shipping, it may be an avenue to look into. And this is not just for Amazon, you can get a P.O. box for other vendors or retailers who only ship within the contiguous States.
The closest town for me in Ottawa with a P.O. box would probably be Ogdensburg, NY._______________
If you are looking to purchase a Monarch home in Ottawa, I can help walk you through the process. We just bought one and can offer advice on upgrades, among other things. Please PM for details
Feel free to thank me if you find my posts helpful

Correct. I just had a video card RMA'd to EVGA in California. I valued the package at $100 but clearly indicated it was defective and returning for a warranty repair. They did a similar declaration upon return, nobody was charged anything since it was already paid on the original invoice.
That should not be the case, especially with the $20 limit. If it's over the limit, the full value should be used for tax purposes._______________
Rock it.
