amazon.com returns?

I ordered a book from amazon.com that arrived with a bunch of pages stuck together. It only cost $15, but I'd like a proper copy. Do they pay for return shipping on defective items like amazon.ca?

Their customer service page says they pay return shipping on orders where they're at fault, but it's just general info for regular US orders. I tried setting up an exchange, and it doesn't say whether you'll get a return shipping label before the new order confirmation step.

They do have the discretion to say that you can just keep the defective item in certain situations. They've done it for me.

Best thing is probably to phone them, explain the situation, and say that return shipping is almost the same as the price of the item. Their number is 1-800-201-7575.

On the other hand, I have also paid out of pocket for returns to amazon.com.
