Amazon hosts “Hiring Day” on Nov. 2 in Brampton

https://www.bramptonguardian.com/news-s ... -brampton/
Over 3,800 jobs are available for the holiday season
News Oct 26, 2017 Brampton Guardian

Amazon has announced it is creating over 3,800 positions this season at its Brampton, Milton and Mississauga fulfillment centres.

Interested candidates are invited to Amazon’s “Hiring Day” on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Shoppers World in Brampton. Last year, hundreds of holiday positions were transitioned to regular, full-time roles after the holidays and the company expects to continue that trend this year.

Potential candidates are invited to learn more about available positions and to apply online at https://apply.smjobs.com/search/?keyword=Amazon.

New employees will have various shift options to help pick, pack and ship customers’ holiday orders. Throughout the year, on average, 90 per cent of associates across the company’s North American fulfillment network are regular, full-time employees. Employees hired during the holidays play a critical role in meeting customer demand and Amazon is excited to be adding thousands of jobs in the Greater Toronto Area.

In addition to highly-competitive wages, Amazon provides full-time employees with health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans and company stock. In addition, Amazon’s hourly fulfillment centre employees are eligible for the innovative Career Choice program that pre-pays 95 per cent of the cost of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether those skills are related to jobs at Amazon. To date, more than 10,000 employees have taken the next step in pursuing their passion with career re-training through the Career Choice program.

Didn't Calgary win the bid - why is Brampton hosting a hiring day for Amazon?

Because there’s an Amazon shipping warehouse in Brampton?

No, Calgary did not win bid. It has not been announced . They are building a distribution center in Calgary.

I've heard bad things about working as a fulfillment associate for amazon. 10 hour shifts and 4 - day work weeks sound good, but they can force overtime on you. Also, from what I hear, they have high quotas, so you are being worked really hard.

Also, in the link posted, it shows the gta positions only pay ~$14 whereas everything outside the gta pays $15-$17. I guess they know that gta is an employers market.

They hire through SMX- Staff Management. Both the temping agency & Amazon Canada exploits their warehouse slaves. The turnover & burnout & attrition is extremely high over there.

But due to the glut of unemployed & well educated immigrants, they don't have a problem filling these positions. Its a revolving door over there, but desperate GTA immigrants have NO choice but to work there, even if they are exploited & verbally & physically abused, as they have to feed their families & put food on the table.

Amazon knows that and so does SMX-Staff Management, so they squeeze the last drop out of them. Amazon only needs them for November, December and the first few days of January after which they are used & discarded. So about 10 weeks at tops. They have them by the balls over there, really sad & pathetic. No ethics, No values, No principles.

Amazon customers don't care either about these warehouse slaves, as long as little Johnny and sweet Susie get their gifts delivered on time before X'Mas. Who cares about that Indian engineer or the Chinese doctor or the Filipino CA who is being exploited in that warehouse ? Right ?

I know , 2 educated immigrants who went there. It was a Zoo of well qualified and well educated immigrants, desperate for any job as their degrees & diplomas are not recognised by Canada, although they were brought here by Canada under the skilled worker class & given points for immigration based on their education..LOL.

Was really sad to see that. Looks like Canada needs educated labour. Wants educated & qualified immigrants from developing countries like India, China, Brazil etc to work live slaves in miserable working conditions for employers like Amazon & temping agencies like SMX - Staff Management.

Is it Amazon's fault they could not get jobs in their field? Is Amazon breaking any labour laws? Warehouse work is always tough. They're making it pretty clear that they're mainly hiring for seasonal work, and that anyone who is kept on will be still be doing warehouse work.

Bitter much?
At no point did they lie to you. Everyone is told right upfront that it is a seasonal position and that certain quotas need to be met.
You have a choice not to work there. Or to go back to your home country.

RIGHT.
You sound weak and pathetic. What is wrong with a little bit of hard work. 10 hour shifts, mandatory overtime, extra $$$. I work 15 hour shifts, out in the field, if you work 10's and maybe an extra hour or two and are complaining, look at yourself. Maybe you need to lose a lil fat and get into shape, so hit the gym and go back to work! Put yer back into it!

I have worked in a warehouse before, as well as a "freezer" warehouse (icecream, at -30 inside). Worked up to 16, 17 hour shifts before. Before you start posting about slaves and exploitation, maybe you should get yourself checked out
