My wife and daughter love their K4. I got it down at Best Buy in PA for $79. If you turn wifi off then the ads don't refresh, and there are only 2-3 ads cached on it. The ads only come on after about 5 minutes of inactivity. Hope this helps you decide.
My daughter has the K4 and loves it. Here's another vote for it. I have the K3 keyboard 3G, and I'd rather have her K4, to be honest.

thanks guys. I'm thinking of picking one up from the source.
If I did get one from the US, would the warranty still work here in Canada?

Your choice of wifi-non-touch is definitely the way to go if you prefer no touch screen. they also have them at staples (in-store) if you prefer to go that route. They don't seem to offer the wifi non-touch version online though.
I personally prefer the buttons over the touch screen because you can hold it one handed and dont have to move your fingers (and it doesn't grease up the screen). super lightweight, and as others have said, the 3G isn't really all that useful.
I've tried the kindle and the kobo and the kindle has faster responsiveness, so that was my choice.
I tried to order the ad-version from the US, but they cannot ship it to Canada, so you'd have to do the pickup and bring it back. Based on that, i figured i'd just buy the non-ad version for $30 more here (its the same price as in the USA, so there is no savings for the exact same product).
Hope that helps!

I don't think so.

Kindle VS Google
Anyone think Amazon will do anything bring the kindle fire to Canada given the Google Nexus 7 will be here mid July?

Amazon will be introducing two new Kindles today apparently.
The new Kindle Fire and the new Kindle Touch 'Paperwhite'.
Looks like the paperwhite is basically the same as the current Kindle Touch version (that they've stopped selling) with the added benefit of built-in LEDs inside the bezel above the screen. Don't confuse this with backlight, because it's not. It's still an eInk device, it will just have external lighting built into it.
With the new model you would no longer need to clip on an external light to use read in the dark. Of course by using the built-in light it will cut into your battery life no doubt.
As for the new Kindle Fire I have no clue what upgrades they have made over the 1st gen. Will be interesting to see.

I've had my kindle for a few years now..others that got theirs at the same time (what with misuse (dropping etc.)) are replacing them so I was looking here on RFD to see current prices. I was told staples sells them but I didn't see a price ..any idea of the prices on these new readers?
I know if mine breaks I will be looking for a replacement ASAP since it use it daily!

Well Jackie, the new Kindles were introduced today, so have a look at the new Paperwhite model and see if it interests you. Like usual it probably won't be released outside the US for a couple months after the US release (Oct 1st) so you'd have to wait. But it definitely looks interesting.
Touch screen, higher contrast, built in light with 8 week battery life (that's with using the light!), higher resolution, 6 new fonts, new features like "Time to Read" that will tell you how long it will take you to finish a book/chapter based on your reading speed. Also lets you know how long you've been reading a certain book. Seems interesting.
However with that said, the new versions have less storage capacity (2GB) and no speakers.
Price for this new model is $139.99 (the 3G version is $199)

paperwhite looks great. i almost bought a nook glow but I like this a lot more. only thing holding me back is I don't want to get locked into Amazon's closed system.
