Hopefully, it turns out good. Netflix is working on its own fantasy series, "The Witcher". Sony holds the rights to the "Wheel of Time" fantasy series (which some people are dubbing "the next GoT"), but they haven't announced/decided which network they're going to partner up with.

I'm just glad it's a prequel to Fellowship. I had no interest in watching a remake of LOTR.

I can't believe Amazon spent $250M just for the rights. That doesn't include any production costs. Jeff Bezos must be desperate to get his own Game of Thrones.

Deadline ponders why they haven't reached out to Peter Jackson but I'm fine with another take

Production and marketing costs could add another $250+ million...

The effort to broaden Amazon’s lineup, long in the works, will be in the hands of Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment’s president whom Amazon hired last month as its studio chief. Amazon’s Bezos has wanted a drama to rival HBO’s global hit “Game of Thrones,” according to the people.

In November, Amazon announced it will make a prequel to the fantasy hit “The Lord of the Rings.” The company had offered $250 million for the rights alone; production and marketing could raise costs to $500 million or more for two seasons, one of the people said.

There seems to be a key ingredient missing (so far) for such a massive investment: Peter Jackson.
