Do you need to signup for prime separately for .ca and .com? If yes, then I assume you need to pay separately as well?
Yes separate. Also, the US one includes Instant Video streaming whereas the CA one doesnt.

the amazon account email and the email to verify amazon student can be different so you can use your own account.
Thank you this worked for me. Logged into my account, registered for Prime Student and put my sisters York information in. Got her to forward me the e-mail clicked link, logged in with my info and it worked.

Is prime always free shipping?
From personal experience, the free 2-day shipping works with all items with a PRIME logo, with no lower limit, which is most things sold by amazon. Independent sellers don't always have Prime or free shipping available.
Thanks RFD!

Except for Add-on items, sometimes you can find cheaper than add-on items which are Prime eligible..go figures lol

I'd suggest wait till you see some good deals before signing up for $40, it might not be worth it to sign up now just for the Prime Day

I checked my prime trial for 6 months and I made 6 purchases, so equally $7 shipping for each, I guess I could've combined some orders to get free (slower) shipping anyway so...not really worth it

I signed up for Prime last year. I used it quite more than I thought I would when I would purchase items for 8$ and get free shipping.

This time around I just made a new email and new amazon account for free 30 day trial just for this Prime Day. I may resubscribe at student discount sometime in fall.

For me, I realized that I use it so often that I am willing to pay for it after the trial.
