Amazon releasing a ebook reader Monday
Looks bit pricey at 400 a pop but has some nice specs on it. Colour e-ink screen? Wowwzers
6-inch E-ink screen, no backlight, EV-DO "Whispernet" on Sprint for over the air book purchases -- and the company's vision for digital books replacing "the last bastion of analog." Books will go for $9.99, and users can even subscribe to newspapers and "select blogs" for monthly fees. Also news is that the Kindle gets 30 hours of battery life, and can fully recharge in only two.

I know those who bought the 1st gen are not happy b/c this new one was released so quickly with so many upgrades, but it still lures me!
I'd love some reviews for this 'toy'._______________

I want to get one, from what I researched you can only use it for Amazon released ebooks, the wireless does not work in Canada, it can not read PDFs.
The killer feature is supposed to be the wireless, which uses cellular technology, since it does not work in Canada I can not see a reason to purchase it.
I am keeping my eye out for the sony ebook reader, similar to kindle without the wireless tech but can read various formats and is cheaper._______________

Thanks...that is what I was worried about, the inability to download the books here. I'd hate to give it to hubby to download and bring back.
The Sony ereader is a good alternative I think too. I just think it's somewhat green to go this route esp. if the author gets his cut._______________

The new one looks nice, but the DRM, price and their inaction to make it a truly viable choice in Canada are making it an unattractive purchase for me.

the kindle can easily do PDFs but they need to be converted first. you can transfer them via USB, you don't need to use the wireless.
The sony 505 is a good alternative choice, on sale at ncix right now for 320. The newer Sony 700 is decent but it's a little glossy because of it's new touch screen.
There is a company called Hanlin that has a new one coming out that rounds out the top3.
I'm tempted to get a Kindle2 myself but most of it's features are lost on us in Canada and it's kinda thick compared to the 505 or 700.
