I really wish I had a computer that could handle CPU's over 95W TDP.

It's a nice price, definitely worth the step up from the tri cores. I think AMD are starting to thin out some of their earlier lines thus these are going on clearance, the 720 BE has been discontinued on Newegg, this processor may be the next to go (especially with it being one of the few that aren't AM3)

Dunno if this affects your decision, but Phenom II X4 940 and the Phenom II X4 955 have different sockets. The 940 runs on an AM2+ (DDR2 only), while the 955 is AM3 (could mount in socket AM3 and support DDR3 memory or mount in AM2+ and support DDR2 memory).

True, but if you're not into the constant upgrading, and just want the pc to last for a few years then get a new one... The x4 940 is better bang for buck value.

I've been using a X4 940 for over a month now, and I'm loving it, got it in a build that's somewhere in the middle of htpc and gaming pc.

I just watch my Civ 4 game go zoom zoom nowadays with this cpu.

I spend a few days contemplating between a Core 2 Quad Q8400, a Core 2 Duo E8500 or a Phenom II X4 940. Finally settled on the Phenom and am very happy with my choice.

The earlier batch yes, but the later batch... not really, amd seem to got that 4th core locked up tight now. And who knows OCing and unlocking the 4th core might lower the lifespan of that cpu.
