amd vs intel, nvidia vs ati
What's the performance of those chips who are better in term of Performance/price.
I know intel core2duo kicked AMD ass. But any chance the next gen of AMD will catch up with intel?
ATI vs Nvidia seems to be competitive, and I haven't heard any side dominating the other at the moment.

lol, ummm nvidia handed ati their a$$e$.... the r600 is nowhere to be found and nvidia is already about to release another dirextx 10 card.
so that is easy, 8800gtx or gts
amd has also not responded well to intels c2d or quad.....
If you wait, I am sure new things will come out :P
but intel will still dominate (based of the 45nm process they will release sometime this year). A good full year ahead of amd...._______________

The 8800 series of Nvidia cards are having some serious stuttering issues currently caused by dual core processors. They're working on a driver to solve the issue but currently a lot of games will stutter.
I have a GTS superclocked and I regret selling my 7900 gto_______________

Nothing from AMD for quite a while. Their much touted 4x4 (aka QuadFX) was sadly trounced by Intel's QX6800.
As for Nvidia vs Ati, 6 months ago I would say ATI was better in a price vs performance ratio across the board up to the 7900GTX. Now I would say it's all Nvidia. Since the acquisition by AMD they've been too busy to even bother lowering ATI prices to remain competitive against Nvidia counterparts. R600 is to be hard launched in 3 weeks (supposedly anyway), so if you're going to consider purhasing a videocard, hold off untill then. Not only is the R600 launching, the entire family is slated to be launched on the same day as well. This means all midrange and entry level offerings. I'm not suggesting to go with ATI when they launch, but by then they may turn out to be better and if not, the price on G80 based cards will certainly drop by then. Nvidia should be launching their midrange cards then as well.Last edited by Cafe_333; Apr 4th, 2007 at 07:21 AM.

AMD's next generation is "supposed" to overtake Intel's performance but I'm not sold on that. Intel plans on releasing 3+ GHz chips after they switch to 45nm and the Core 2 architecture scales very well with added clock speed. AMD's chips might match the current line of Core 2 chips but I don't expect them to compete with anything over 3 GHz.

Price-wise, AMD is still competitive (not taking into account overclocking of course). X2 4600+ = $150, Core 2 E6300 = $220.

It's always a game of cat and mouse.
One manufacturer has the market for a while, then the other has the most wanted product.
Last generation was AMD's, hands down. Intel stole the show Bainas, Dothan, Yonah and sealed the deal with Conroe!

Who cares? The competition in the market place is great for consumers. A real nightmare would be to see Intel buy out AMD when it is down. I really don't want that to happen.

I know, and I agree with you but now you're going off topic, we're not talking about businesses etc.
Market share != price/performance ratio
AMD as proven themselves to be worthy competitors.. Though Intel did have their hands down their pants for abit, I mean Williamette wasn't THAT revolutionary as everyone hyped it up to be..
