You ever visit hawaii? You can burn 100k-130k taking the family to Maui/HNL from BLI in Y (only $11.20 USD/ea in YQ!). Generally it's easier to find a direct flight down for 12.5k ea, then back via PDX for 20k.
Yeah... we did BLI-KOA-BLI on AK this spring!

Unfortunately, AK doesn't fly to HNL.. so it's either Kona or Maui ( both great choices, though! ). Curious why it's easier to fly back via PDX though.
I'd love to write history... in advance.

I have found redemption using AVIOS for AA flights to be near impossible. It used to be very easy to find and book flights- now I even looking out months, I never find anything. The 25% bonus is nice, but if I cant find anything to use my points for, at a decent redemption, then whats the point?

Easier was the wrong wording. I meant I've found it difficult to line up my time there with a Sat or Sun direct back to BLI, but never seem to have trouble getting BLI-OGG.

And yeah, Kona!! but had HNL on the brain!

can we transfer BA to Aeroplan ?
No. In general, frequent flyer programs (Aeroplan, Avios etc) do not allow you to transfer points OUT, so transferring between them is not possible.

Agreed. I regret converting my RBC points when they had the 50% promotion, 50K points and cant find any decent flights for next year.

Thanks OP! i was deciding if I should transfer to either aeroplan or avios.

Would it be advantageous to get Avios points if i want to travel from YVR to LAX or Japan?

Supposed to be a good use of Avios on Cathy Pacific's biz class. My only concern is how easy it is to redeem 4 tickets.

Anyone know if the YVR-JFK flight is good value using Avios? Trying to come up with a good idea for 280,000 Avios. ( 4 passengers ). Any ideas? Most of the info out there is about using Avios from YYZ...

Was considering Mexico... but it requires a transfer... which would be 40k YVR-DFW-CUN or 30k YVR-LAX-MZT... and considering direct flights to CUN from YVR are only about $500... ROI seems meh.
[/quote]

From YYZ? Challenging but possible. Book well in advance, sometimes 4 flights is all that's available.

I am not too familiar with west coast redemptions. However, you could refer to the Avios guide on flyertalk here

Hope it helps!

Note: The linked transfer page still shows a 1000:1000 conversion ratio, but click on 'Product Information' and you will be able to see the special offer (screenshot below).

I am waiting for AVION/BA to offer a transfer sale , be nice to see 30% more from Avion to BA, doubt we will see the 50% they did in past, but BA works well enough for what i would like to do and that's is book ahead a year to Europe

This is for Amex, not Avion.

Those are both GREAT uses of Avios.

YVR-LAX = 15k points.
YVR-NRT = 50k points

However, finding availability on JL can be a challenge. They usually only open up max 4 seats per flight. Within Japan, each segment is only 4,500 and in many cases have NO fuel surcharges.
I'd love to write history... in advance.
