I just called and there is an annual fee of $75.
i asked for the no annual fee one and there is only the costco card one.

not sure what you asked for but i asked and asked and the same numbers you mention are for the gold card with $75 annual fee.

Yeah a $75 fee kills it for most, since you'd have to spend extra to earn that back.

According to my math, you have to spend 8,750 a year to break even with the annual fee. AFTER you spent $8750 you will start earning 2%.

No; I just called and confirmed that there is no annual fee on this card, so this information is not correct.

On the other hand, AMEX is so incredibly difficult to deal with. I've been with them since 1999, and they are not willing to budge at ALL on yearly fees and/or special "offers", even though they're the ones that flipped card terms on me!

I have been with Amex for almost 10 years and have no problem with them. Good customer service, all disputes were resolved in my favour (one case took a month to resolve, but nobody is perfect). The only complain - not all stores accept the Amex where I shop. 70% - Amex, 30%- Ultramar.

IMHO this is the best CC cash rewards after the CT Creditcard which is not available anymore.

This is how I applied for the CC:
1. Called 1-800-869-3016 told them I'm not happy with my Costco AMEX and I want a better Cash Reward.
2. Was told that they have the 2% AMEX Gold with a fee of $75, but when she checked with the person that takes the phone application, she was told that there is no annual fee.
3. I applied for it and was told numerous times that there won't be an annual fee.

gooddeal, did you switch your costco card to this gold card, or just applied for a new card? I am wondering if I can switch my costco card with all my creidt to gold card...I dont want to keep to AMEX. thank you.

I just called and switched from an American Express Air Miles card to the American Express Gold card

a. I repeatedly asked if there was no annual fee and they asserted that there was no annual fee whatsoever... (this is not a promo offer - the card is no annual fees for life [or until they change their policy])

b. Supplementary cards are free

c. Tiers confirmed as indicated in OP's post

d. Promotional 3.99% balance transfer rate is available - regular rate is 16.99% for purchases and cash advances (doesn't really apply since I pay off my balance monthly)

e. Application takes 10 business days and you will hear from them by mail

Edit: MINIMUM $30,000 annual income required to apply for this card

Edit 2: Just remembered, there is also no maximum rebate... the sky's the limit. i.e. If you spend $200,000, you'll get $3937.50 back :P

Yeah, AMEX's service is VERY good, which is why it's frustrating that they aren't willing to go the one extra step to keep my business.

Just signed up, no annual fee, 2% tiered cash back confirmed.

Starting January it'll be my main card, my ct will take a back seat from then on.

EDIT: Could not change my Air Miles AMEX to the Gold 2% Cash Back card. They had to get me to apply as a new card member - which is fine.

It's not advertised... if you push your service rep enough, they'll transfer you to the applications department and that's where they know about the card.

Absolutely no limit whatsoever. Spend as much as you want and get 2% once you hit that tier.

You should definitely try again.

I just called and mentioned I was an existing AMEX Airmiles customer and I want to sign up for the no annual fee Gold card with the 2% cash rebate. I was transferred to another department that does over-the-phone applications, and I spent 15 minutes answering questions for the application. The cards will arrive within 10 business days.

I have the CIBC dividend card as well but the 1% kicks in when you have spent $3000. Up to $1500, it is .25. The next tier is $1500 to $3000 where it is .50.

For this AMEX card, you need to speed $5000 to get 2%.

Unless you spend more than $5000 using this credit card, there is no point in getting this card.
