Now what about the aeroplan miles? If one cancel the card just before 1 yr, will one still get the miles? I guess that's everyone wanted to know.

this is a good card for sure especially with the first year no fee.
I'd assume they'll start mailing cards next week (new year) since they don;t mail out cards during holidays or something like that.

So did I on Dec. 11.. I called a few times and was told the card was mailed out from Toronto on Dec. 19. Still didn't get it and called them. Between different people some said it was mailed out of Toronto on Dec. 19, some said it was mailed out AFTER Dec. 19, but not from Toronto, and the post office was not working on Dec. 24 (I corrected her on that)... Bottom line is, didn't receive the card yet.

Statement today in the mail?
Hmm can anyone tell me what this is all about: I applied for the card about 2-3 weeks ago and I received this statement today in the mail.
It says on the top "American Express Business Gold Rewards Card" Of course there are no charges etc on the card. It says this if for your information only, No payment is required. Billing days this period: 0 And of course no charges of any kind on this statment?
Very strange????
Anyone else get something like this? or know what this is? I have not received any such card.
Follow-up: Just got off the phone and apparently I got the card-wow! They mailed it out Dec12.

i wasn't automatically approved for this card, and AE keeps calling to "verify" my information. i've brushed them off so far as they've been calling during odd times, but does anyone know what kind of questions they will ask? i don't have a small business, and simply put my name as the company name as others have suggested. will they ask me questions about the business? if they do should i lie or just say i didn't read the fine print when i signed up? i spend about 40k a year on my credit card...would they care about (or even have access to) that information when determining whether to give me the card?

the only thing they have in common is that they are both rewards cards to collect airline points.

I kept getting an error message after filling out all information - I click the "next" button and the system asked me to check the name I want to be on the card, I tried several times and it kept not letting me go through, I did include the complete last name and it is less than 20 characters.

Aeroplan alternative
I have decided to switch to Aeroplan and saw this business Card. It seems like a decent offer but I do not own a business! But I see they have another card on the site this week http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/main.php/financial/ it's the Platinum version which appears to be for anyone not just business. It has a significant fee but after researching I would get the same miles as the business card is offering and an additional free flight. I worked out that I get the fee back and some straightaway if I use the bonus miles and take out this free partner ticket, this seems to make it better than the business card and CIBC's equivalent

They will ask you the name of your business (I suspect you can just say it's a small company registered under your name, which is quite legal by the tax code), your business phone/address, the name of your bank, as well as a contact person at the bank, as well as your account # (I think) (when they called, I didn't give my business account info, but my personal credit line). They _will_ call your bank to confirm that you really DO exist. They did not ask me my SIN, though they did ask me a few other private questions, so I eventually got pissed off at them and told them to check my other AMEX account - but they persisted. So even if you have an AMEX already, it's more or less a "new" application. They never asked verification questions about my business, and they don't have access to your tax filings or anything AFAIK.

Depends on your spending. The Avion is not bad since they appear to have the yearly 50% promo, but the downside is it's ONLY for BA/Oneworld. The AMEX card, by contrast, is Aeroplan/Star Alliance, OR other companies (Delta, etc), which may be better depending on what you fly. Additionally, if you can break the spending threshold ($50k / $100k I think), the bonuses are rather nice and make it very attractive. The initial 25k bonus is RATHER good, though, and easily much higher than what other cards offer as a welcome bonus.
[EDIT] BTW: the title of OP's post is misleading. It's not 25,000 AEROPLAN miles, it's 25,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Points - you can convert them to other partners, such as Delta, etc. (or you can get half an iPod), so it's NOT just Aeroplan miles.

The Platinum card is arguably the best that AMEX offers, but you have to a) fly enough and b) spend enough to make it worth it the $500-some fee. The free lounge access is an excellent perk (but then again....... if you fly enough, you will have status, and you won't care about the free lounge access) and the free partner ticket is on full-fare flights only, which are quite expensive (but MIGHT work out to be a good deal depending on the destination). They used to have partner two-for-one business class offers - now THAT was a good deal, but then, you're on RFD, not Flyertalk, so I doubt many people here care about full-fare J class tickets, even IF they are two-for-one.
The bonus points on the Platinum are quite bad, though. 1.25 points per $? Yuck.

Thanks for this. Got an app in the mail for this a month or two ago. Decided to sign up for this (with the rebate assist above!). Free flight makes it a great deal.
