Do people who buy $4,000 Business class plane tickets hang around a site like RFD?

Yeah, who does that? If they really wanted to save tax payers' money, they would fly economy.

If they really wanted to save tax payers' money, they wouldn't work for the government, LOL!
Paying less is only half the equation. The other half is buying less... ;)

It's gone now, but a couple of weeks ago there was a business class sale with AC/UA Polaris from YYZ to TPE for $2772 CAD return.

As for premium economy I haven't paid over $1900 CAD return from YYZ to BKK for a number of years now using EVA Air. Non-stop to Asia as well.

For those that love flying on the cheap, are adventurous, don't mind flying economy, and who want to do a similar trip (go to Hong Kong and China), while flying to Guam, the Micronesia islands and Hawaii on ANA & United, why not try something like this:

Cost: only $452 CDN ($348 USD)

LAX (Los Angeles) to HKG (Hong Kong)
Beijing (PEK) to Guam (GUM)
Guam (GUM) to Honolulu (HNL) by the Island Hopper (layovers in Chuuk State TKK, Pohnpei PNI, Kwajalein Atoll KWA, Majuro MAJ,)
Honolulu (HNL) to YOW (Ottawa) , YUL (Montreal) or YYZ (Toronto)

Ottawa Return:
https://www.google.com/flights#flt=LAX. ... .CAD.45113

Montreal return:
https://www.google.com/flights#flt=LAX. ... .CAD.45113

Toronto return:
https://www.google.com/flights#flt=LAX. ... .CAD.45113

Extra costs: You just need to book a one way flight to Los Angeles..... and figure out if you want to fly or take the train or bus from Hong Kong to Beijing China.

lol is that like 12 flights in total for a trip?

The only problem is that layovers are too short...I can't even exit the airport to check out the city

And the island hopper can be booked with 40000 aeroplan pts one way. Just look for the united flight with 5 connections. Costs is $21 in taxes one way. That's for economy. Business availability is scarce and costs 87k one way,

Thanks for posting. I've been eying this trip for almost a year; since the beginning of this thread.

But I'd like to:
- Start from BTV;
- Rest 1-2 days on the west coast;
- Avoid > 12 hrs flights;
- Avoid peak pollution in Beijing (Nov-March);
- Avoid the weeks around October 1st celebrations.

That makes it difficult to find.

I'm not sure about The Island Hopper though: what's the attraction for you?

Sorry for side stepping the thread but I still doubt that a single $4,000 business class ticket will be bought by a RFD member because of this thread.

I just wanted to add a reference to the Mileage Run Deals forum (click "this thread" above). Someone might discover it. And to add that YUL-LAX is often +/- $250 CAD one way with Delta.

Yeah, I've occasionally been paying attention to the Flyertalk thread as well. I actually booked the following last year for this past spring:

March 20: BTV-ORD
March 21: ORD-HNL-GUM
March 23: GUM-NRT
March 24: NRT-HGH (ANA)

April 3: HGH-HKG (Dragonair)
April 4: HKG-ORD-YOW
Priced in G class, $340 USD.

However I ended up cancelling my trip (cancelled for free when a schedule change took place) and took advantage of the Ottawa to Maui Delta deal for $184 USD RT instead, and spent an awesome 10 days in Maui:

https://www.yowdeals.com/ottawa-to-maui ... ding-taxes

LOL both my girlfriend and I ended up getting 15,697 MQM's each for that trip, so for my next trip i'm leaning on flying Delta so my GF and I can get Silver Medallion Status.

I'm also still debating on attempting this trip again, but the starting point from Los Angeles versus Burlington Vermont makes a big difference. Last time I had a very nice 23 hour layover in Guam that I can't replicate this time around.

As for the island hopper, the island hopper looks awesome. The scenery of each of the islands, 30 min-1 hour layovers at each of the islands so you can leave the aircraft each time, stretch your legs and get your passport stamped. here's a good read about the island hopper:

It's definitely not for everyone though.

There is, it was started before the YOW site. http://www.yyzdeals.com/

As for business class, it's all here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/premium-fare-deals-740/

You may find Canadian-specific deals here, but RFD is not a good site to keep up on travel deals.

Not many, but a few business class fares have been posted here on RFD over the years. Under $2000 CAD on Hainan from YYZ to Beijing or Hong Kong. Cape Town or Johannesburg, South Africa for around $2500 CAD business class on Air Canada and other airlines, to name just a couple of examples. Even then there were gripes on here from a few individuals about the prices. They wouldn't know a great business class or premium economy fare if they tripped over it.
