Check the reviews.....what are the odds Audrey B. (Jan 5) and Suzanne D. (Jan 5) took the exact same picture at the same location. Fake reviews?

That mount is sold separately and not worth it imo, >$30.

At least you can always return it with Amazon.

I have an old cheap camera that I bought several years ago from DX for <$15 and converted to a wired dashcam, and it does an adequate job at SD resolution. So when TomTop advertised a 1080p dashcam with all 5-star reviews on super-sale for about $10, I figured "how bad could it be?". Answer: bad. Totally useless for any purpose whatsoever even with the lowest possible standards and expectations. Specs as fake as the reviews - SD-only for a start. Video possibly adequate to make out vague shapes with good daytime lighting. Tomtop had to give everyone's money back. And then they had the nerve to come back here again to RFD 2 months later and post it again from a fake newbie account, this time as a "720p" camera.

Lesson learned - don't buy cheap dashcams with fake reviews.

I own two ROAV cams since last July in two cars, so it's been through a hot summer and a cold December/January. So far so good, got some nice videos of other drivers being stupid. I like the wifi and app. Updating firmware was a breeze.

Fakespot said "Our engine detects that in general the reviewers have a suspiciously positive sentiment" made me laugh cause what if most people did think it is indeed a decent product?

Great brand, but I'm not sure about EXTREME temperatures. Sounds like it will work in Canada 8 months out of the year...

I ordered this one yesterday, on a lightning sale:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0784Z ... UTF8&psc=1

I don't know yet if it is any good. This will be my third attempt to get a dash cam/backup camera. The first well, but the cable for the rear camera was too short, and it fell apart when I tried to plug-in an extension cable... The second one seems to have been a WRONG product, as the one that was shipped to me had no support for the rear camera. My wife didn't like the first even as dash camera. The first because it was a mirror dash camera, and the display was in the middle. Distracting from using it as a normal mirror. The second, I didn't even didn't get the wrong one, would have been worse because it had a blue tint that made the mirror useless in poor lighting conditions. So I'm now onto trying one that is not also a mirror. Maybe that will work out better... Who knows.

No offence but that comment is a bit extreme, unless you were being funny? The cold doesn't kill these devices, it slows down the reaction of the battery chemistry, just like ANY battery. But extreme cold (which most of Canada doesn't get, may make plastic or wire brittle to handling). Once the battery chemistry warms up, the device should be fine.

As well, heat doesn't kill these devices but it is hard on battery chemistry, again, this is for ANY battery, so over time, high heat can shorten the battery's life. So leaving one's car parked in full sun with the windows closed, MAY be enough heat to degrade the battery over time. This could happen even in spring, fall or even winter as the heat builds up IN the car. Heat also can temporarily affect the Auto Focus of some device lenses. This can usually be found out via the many video reviews on YouTube.

Lots of reviews on YouTube, & other dashcam sites, so there is no shortage of good information out there, IF only people would do some research on their own vs. spreading false info.

Enough with the discussion on temperatures. Review are excellent, the ones that aren't mention the temperature issue on early models.

This is the upgraded version which resolves the early issue a small amount of users had with extreme cold/heat.

Statement from Anker:
"We have recently learned that a small number of our early Roav DashCam products may be affected by extreme in-car temperatures causing the screen to pop out.

Please note: This is NOT a safety issue. It is normal for a battery to expand in higher temperatures which is why products are designed to accommodate what the industry refers to as “swelling.” In our earlier Roav Dashcam C1 products, there wasn’t enough room in the design to accommodate for extreme heat expansion causing the screen to bulge out. New versions have fixed this issue.

NOTE: Only Amazon.com is selling the upgraded version, NOT amazon.ca

No better unit for the price!

Given all the posts in this thread and the merge of threads, is there a consensus on what's the better buy here? I see the following:

Aukey one for $79.99 CAD after discount code
https://www.amazon.ca/AUKEY-Wide-Angle- ... p+dash+cam

Anker Roav C1 for about $65ish USD
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XNSDRW8/

Anker Roav A1 for about $75ish USD
https://www.amazon.com/Roav-Dashboard-N ... VBW6ARKQMZ

Yi for $59.99 CAD

is the seller on the Yi reliable?
RFD does not save you money, it makes you buy things you never realized that you needed at a decent price.

I'm strictly referring to the product description:
EXTREME TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE: When plugged in: Operates in 19℉-149℉. Using battery power (for the parking monitor): Operates in 32℉-149℉ —just stick it in your car and forget it.
So the vendor is telling us not to expect this camera to work as a parking monitor below temperatures of 32℉. I don't know how many days are below that temperature in the average year, but 4 months out of the year seems like a good guess. So according to the product description, this will only work in Canada 8 months out of the year. If you are claiming it will operate in a colder temperature, then feel free to buy it. I'm going to believe the person with financial motives to want me to buy this when they say it won't work below freezing.

was tempting to buy since the app is kind of cool until I saw that there is a battery,
don't want to take the chance especially with our extreme weather here.
I will stick with the cheap a118c with capacitor, will buy when they have a capacitor version for same price.

The Aukey one is no longer available at that C$79 price, but the regular price on Amazon.com is US$70 (compared to C$119 on Amazon.ca!), and it has been as low as US$52. Quite a ripoff in Canada.

Got the Yi this week from that seller. Took two days to arrive with Prime. Haven't hooked it up yet but it looks good quality.
