'Annihilation' Natalie Portman Alex Garland (Ex-Machina)

More "high brow"(?) SF from Ex-Machina director Alex Garland will make its 'Arrival' next year

Alien/sci-fi stuff is so cool looking these days.

I kinda miss the 'let's make a spaceship out of mashed potatoes' sci-fi flicks.

The books were bizarre but somehow compelling. I think the movies could actually improve on the source material for a change though, Vandermeers editor didn't exactly restrain him much judging by the amount of filler and descriptive detail in them. Portman rarely picks bad projects so this should be interesting.

Paramount has no faith in it but the critics might be on board with 94% on RT on a small sample of less than 20 reviews

From the trades

Variety

"Alex Garland follows up 'Ex Machina' with a visually stunning, imagination-tickling sci-fi thriller in which Natalie Portman investigates an extra-terrestrial threat."

From THR

"Scary and beautiful."

From the Wrap

"Natalie Portman Anchors Woolly, Weird Sci-Fi Saga
Alex Garland’s exquisitely disturbing follow-up to “Ex-Machina” cements his status as a thoughtful, nerve-rattling auteur"

Interesting thought provoking film. I can sew why critics were in awe of it but I can't see general audiences going anywhere near it.

Seems kind of weird for theatre's to bid on something that gets a digital release elsewhere. If it's digital, someone will pirate it. One of the biggest advantages theatre's have is the window of time where they're the only game in town.

I couldn't wrap my head around the book, so picturing how it would look for a movie seems like an exhausting endeavor.
Given the positive reviews, I may venture out to the big screen to see what I missed.

Loved this movie.
It's extremely complex in its unfolding, the musical score is hypnotic, and it's an original story told with multiple layers - easy enough to understand but deep in its core.

Kudos to Garland in bringing it to the big screen.

Oh and this may be the only time in your life when you look at flowers and are frightened.

I've been itching to watch something in the theatre....Is this worth it?

To see if our tastes are similar, how would you rate these out of 10? Tx.

*Blade runner 2049
*Alien resurrection
*Contact
*Arrival

This film is unlike the movies above.
I enjoyed it tremendously but it's not a simple dish that tastes good to all.

*Blade runner 2049 7
*Alien resurrection 2
*Contact 9
*Arrival 7
