Anniversary to Paris
Hey Everyone,
My parents are going to be celebrating their 25th anniversary next August (2009). I wanted to fly them to Paris and perhaps spend a week there to celebrate.
Does anyone know a good / appropriate time to buy cheap tickets? I talked with a travel agent and she said its best to buy advance in the Winter (seeing that I'm booking ahead for August), but wanted to ask if anyone had similar experiences..
Thanks!

First of all, tickets aren't going to be cheap in August, because of the summer peak.
That being said, the cheapest tickets that you will find will be with the charters (whatever ones are still in business
). And tickets on the charters for August probably won't be available until the spring at the earliest. So, there is definitely no reason to buy them this year.

I'd be more inclined to wait..... many carriers still have a hefty fuel surcharge on int'l fares which have not reflected the recent drop in the price of oil.

We found the opposite as Paris essentially shuts down for the month of August. Shops are closed, lines at the Louve and eiffel tower and next to nothing. There is no problem getting a table at a care/restaurant (if they are open).
Hotels are discounted during this time and offer abound.
