I would never call it.

If you were to see some or thought to be terrorist activity, I would think a call to 911 would be OK...No?

Something worth noting is an often not-acknowledged or under-acknowledged element of our package of counterterrorism initiatives since 2001, that is, a terrorism hotline. Of all the proposals I have heard from around the world, speaking frankly, this is perhaps one of the most asinine. The public received, in the mail, from the government hotline numbers. If an individual spotted someone he or she thought was a terrorist, the individual was urged to ring up and advise the authorities. After some 40,000 phone calls, there have been no arrests. All it has created is a sense of siege within the Islamic community. Local police are complaining that they are constantly being called out to visit homes that are holding legitimate Islamic religious functions. The hotline initiative to my mind has not achieved much, other than to empower the intelligence and security forces._______________

Edit: Looks like what FF just posted proves me right.
People use the hotline to advise the cops of the presence of Muslims.
I wonder how many serious calls the cops were diverted from to visit a house of Pakistanis having a party.Last edited by konfusion666; Jun 5th, 2006 at 09:43 AM.

What makes the govt think that I will be able to find out a plan that is being made my alqueda in afghan, or IRA in ireland or the terrorists in vancouver, or someone planning stuff from their house in downtown toronto?? I should either be a spy or a terrorist to know such stuff.

I'd only call to turn in the real terrorists.

Jun 5th, 2006 04:07 PM #13I'd never call the hotline. If I was concerned, I'd want to be taken seriously so I'd call 911, not a hotline where everyone will just go "here we go again..."

If I overheard someone at school or at work talking about plans to carry out terrorist activity - I would call the hotline.
If I came across a MySpace site that talked about planning terrorist activity I would report it.
If I saw a group of guys near air-conditioning vents doing suspicious things I could call the hotline.
If I heard my brother or relative planning to blow something or someone up I would call the hotline.
Better safe than sorry.
For the folks in Halifax - what do you know about terrorist potential? You guys are not a target. We here in the GTA are. You have no right to criticize our fear. It is not you or your friends and family that could be blown up. For you guys in Halifax or Winnipeg or some other small time city that is not a target for you to talk about this threat is like playing poker but with no money. Until you have money in the game it is not a real poker game.

Jun 5th, 2006 04:24 PM #15YOu speak as if terrorists are waiting to blow your house off. A terrorist does not differentiate btw small city and large city. Halifax and toronto. Probably people in toronto are not as discipled as people from small city. Thats why they do such stupid jobs. Montreal is kewl place though
