Hi
I'm looking to buy something at Birks (Montreal). Their sales people are kind of cold and it seems that you can't bargain any price... Any trick? Coupon? Anything!
Thank you

At Christmas time, my gf bought me a watch from Birks.
She was able to get 10 to 15% off with a little haggling.
So, I think is a little movement.
But anywas, I returned the $1800 sucker and bought myself some computer parts. She admits that she went a little nuts buying it.
It's hard to shop for a RFDer.
Think of all the LCDs that I could have gotten with that money. (If the rebates ever came back! :wacko:_______________

You can get a $50 gift certificate for applying for a Birks credit card. I don't know if they still have this deal on, but I'd check with the store people.
EDIT: Read the "Birks Platinum Credit Card" brochure for exact details. The above may not be entirely accurate. :wacko:_______________
Some info about getting cashback rewards if you can figure out the Da Vinci Code links: RFD thread

Yes you can haggle. But not a lot, and only if you're spending a decent amount of money.

It's more difficult ... but not impossible. Most sales there are used to making sales without static.
What are you looking for anyways? Can you get that item somewhere else? Birks has very high retail prices across the board but rely on their exclusivity and brand name cachet to maintain many sales._______________
He .... looka lika MAN!
I tell you every ting!

I was in the Toronto Eaton center Birks and the salesguy gave me $15-20% off Omega watches, and I wasn't even serious about buying one.
but yeah, pretty much the price is the price.

Sorry to dig this out of the RFD abyss, but I'm a bit curious as to people's expereinces.
Specifically watches, more specifically, Omega ones.
I do have some history, I bought an Omega without doing a lot of price research in Vancouver 2 years back at Birks downtown (Hastings, I think), and got 12% or so off, thinking I did ok. With AD's I could've at very least I got that, plus more.
I came back to the Birks here (Alberta's split, Calgary stores have Tag, Edmonton's, Omgea) to a Birks that didn't higher end watches, just house brand, and the sales person said no discounts.
Authorized distributors (read upper end jewellrey stores that are listed on the Omega website) have given me 20% off MSRP with just asking last week, if I was interested.
Would Birks price match that? Have people had experience in matching prices that? Reason I am leaning towards Birks is that I have thier CC (and got a lower interest rate - long story), as well as a gift card.
This thread seesm to give conflicting info, some get discounts, some don't. In my price research now, dealer cost on Omega's are 55% or so of MSRP, so 20-25% for the consumer shouldn't be a stretch.
The other factor is that I am sure that you'd obviously get a better deal on stock that's in the case, as opposed to something they have to order, or at least call from another out of province store.
With Birks selling Omegas only in Edmonton, and myself in Calgary I'm at a disadvantage to be able to periodically browse store selection, and get a feel for the sales person's ability to give discounts...although I am looking in the next few months for another watch.
So, just asking for general expereince in haggling with Birks over watches.
Cheers,

Vancouver 2010 items - 60% off
Birks is currently having an online sale on their Vancouver 2010 Winter Games collection! (Perhaps it's in stores too)

Visa Perks
Visaperks.ca offers 15% off an online purchase at Birks using a Visa card.
Also, free shipping.
See the link here:

You could probably try to print that page and take it in to the store to help you bargain if you don't want to shop online.
Good luck!
