One of my 2TB WD20EARS storage pool drives recently crapped out on my WHS v1 (HP EX495). It was still under warranty so I did a RMA and got a replacement sent to me. WD sent me a WD20EARX 2TB instead. From what I can tell, these newer WD drives cannot be jumpered (pin 7-8) to get it to run under Windows XP (which is the OS on the WHS). So I understand I need to run the WD Align software to "re-align" the partition. Problem is my two client computers at home are on Windows 7. Am I still able to use the WD Align software on a Windows 7 PC to prepare the drive for Windows XP? I had assume that I need to run the WD Align on a WinXP machine but I'm not sure.
Any help would be appreciated.

Any experience using WD20EARX 2TB drives on a WHS v1?

i've forgotten if WHS complete wipes the drive before incorporating it into its storage (by complete wipe, i mean deleting the partition and recreating a new one + formatting it)
if it only formats the partition, you can create that partition using win7 first
if it wipes the drive clean, you're gonna have to do re-alignment (but it's not 100% necessary..)_______________
