If they're under 10, Woody Woodchucks is good, and so is the Fantasy Fair at Woodbine.

Our daughter is having her birthday party at a pumpkin farm this year.
In the past we have been to a ceramics place, Putting edge, Loblaws cooking party, had a balloon artist/magician, and even considering one at the Pickering Museum Village
Chucky Cheese is hell on earth with horrible food

Our son had a bowling party, has been invited to swimming parties and movie theatre parties, farm party where they got to ride a pony around, visit and feed the other animals and go on a mini scavenger hunt, then bbq'd after the festivities. He really enjoyed that one...also mini golf/arcade party. Of course, he's only 5 so not a lot of experience so far...
You don't mention where you live or how old the child is, maybe mention that, people might have more ideas for your specific area.

Sure, but you will have to pay rent.
These were all her choices. We would give her options and she would make the choice. We do this to make sure the party is one she wants. Not one we want.

Depending on age you can try Rinx. My son just went to a party there and you can rent out laser tag, glow in the dark mini gold, etc.
