the Nissan Juke is not even in the same league as the Subaru Crosstrek when it comes to the overall interior space and ground clearance
the Juke is nice as a secondary car but this is gonna be your only car, i would stay away from it

Urban SUV? who made that term up? all CUVs are pretty much "urban"

you have too many choices to test drive and work out the numbers.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the wife is not too keen on domestic cars so we will have to eliminate the Jeep, Dodge, Chev and other domestic brands :)

I also don't want to have to pay for premium gas so the Countryman is out of the picture, although funnily enough, she was aiming for a Mini Cooper from the get-go but I managed to talk to her out of it!

This will be our second car so space, or lack thereof, won't be a showstopper. She is only 5'2" and really enjoys driving our primary car (X-Trail) so I thought an Urban SUV would be perfect for her and she agrees!

For now, we will have these 3 on the list to test drive

- Nissan Juke
- Subaru Crosstrek (may look at the Outback at the same time)
- Mitsubishi RVR

Will let her know about the HR-V and CX-3. Thanks.

Get the CX-3. It's gorgeous. Only thing that's missed that would make it perfect is the lack of a diesel engine option.

Kia Soul, Kia Rondo (maybe?), new Lexus NX (probably too much $$), Fiat 500x (available sometime in the future)
We bought a 2014 Rondo LX 7-seater in mid-Sept and like it a lot. Mileage isn't great but it was a good deal with $Can4,500 rebate and free winter package (winter tires/remote start/winter mats/heated rear seats/snowbrush!) to meet our limited budget. The winter package offer is still available but colour/model selection is lmited, and rebate is now $Can6,000. You may also want to consider this newly designed car.

Jeep Cherokee. Test drove it and liked it but ended up with a Grand Cherokee for the room.

Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Rogue are another couple of options.

The Tuscon, Rogue, Cherokee, Rav4, CR-V, Sportage, Escape and CX-5 are all compact SUVs.

The Chevy Trax, Buick Encore, Mitsubishi RVR, BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, Jeep Renegade, Mazda CX3, and Honda HRV are subcompact SUVs.

There is a huge size difference between a subcompact suv and a compact suv. You really have to drive both classes of vehicles to understand.

The subcompact SUV/CUV is one of the if not THE fastest growing vehicle segment in North America.

Mitsubishi RVR is the best looking non-luxury city micro-crossover until the new Mazda CX-3 comes out early next year.

It may be the best looking in 2010, not anymore in 2014. Just no.

Don't forget VW Tiguan guys.

Juke is *****.

Get a Toyota Matrix, 2014 is the lat model year. Its made in Cambridge, Ontario. Support canadian business.

RAV4/ CRV/Rouge all crap. Only seat 5. Whats the point? Its so big and heavy, but only seats 5. Matrix is one of the most practical car ever made. Flat folding rear seats, you can fit a mattress in there.

which part of Urban SUV do you not understand? They are NOT looking for a hatchback. Besides, the Matrix is a very old design and based on the COROLLA platform. There are lots of other much better hatchbacks if that is what OP is looking for, but he/she isn't so let's get back onto Urban SUVs.

Oh, and a car being made in Ontario/Canada does not mean it's better made, or it's good for OP's wallet. So please, don't be a r$tard and blindly buy into the "support local" fantasy, such thinking is never going to get you the best bang for your buck.

You should definitely look at the upcoming Mazda CX3 and Honda HRV.

The CX3 will likely be awesome because its a smaller CX5 (which has been getting great reviews)

The HRV will be good because its based on the Fit, which is basically the best reviewed subcompact car right now due to its smart design

They still produce the Matrix? Wow, I'm shocked. I thought it died in 2010 or so around the same time that GM killed the Pontiac Vibe..

the proper test for an "urban SUV" - Hitting curbside @ 30km/h and estimate repair costs.
