They don't expire. I've had some of my songs for quite a while.
As for converting, well you might have a problem with that. Apple has a proprietary DRM scheme called FairPlay, and AFAIK it doesn't allow direct conversion using a stand AAC to MP3 convertor. There are guides out there though I'm sure. Either way YMMV.

has anyone bought anything off itunes?
If so, is the AAC files or whatever copy protected in anyway? I heard before they use to expire after x amount of time. Im looking to buy some albums and then just convert them to mp3

yeh, i started googling and found a couple sites that let you encode into mp3 while getting past the DRM
whats the current bit rate for itunes store? i hope its not 128

- I download songs that I can't find on limewire (or if the quality suck), and songs I *really* like but I don't like the rest of the album enough to go out and buy the whole album. I don't mind paying $0.99 for a good song.

If I remember right the canadian govt. allows downloading mp3 legally for personal use right?? and we pay levies with CDs..!!!
