anyone deal with FirstOntario Credit Union?

reliable? they have okay interest rates currently!

No personal dealings, but my mother, brother, and sister in Hamilton have dealt with First Ontario for up to 50 + years (as Stelco Credit Union, then Avestel, now First Ontario). Dealings included mortgages, loans, RRSPs, accounts. No complaints from any of them.

They are friendly ,slow paced, show their blue collar roots, but overall I prefer them to a bank . My experience has been retail banking only with them ,no investments or loans

Several of my co-workers deal with them and rave about them, because they have free chequing accounts, and actual real branches. My sister in law and her husband have GIC's and savings with them, and nothing bad to say. Their rates are actually good for a financial institution that is not strictly online.

I am considering switching as I still get paid in the form of a cheque, so online banks won't do.
