Not sure what type of anti radar technology they use in Alberta, but in Ontario the Valentine V1 is the only way to go. approx $400 U.S.

Unless you speed all the time there's no need to get one in Ontario since they are illegal.
As for OP's question for a laser detector, I wouldn't rely on a in car mounted laser detector.
Reason is the only real way for the detector to detect laser is when the receiver receives a reflection of the laser beam. For advanced warning this reflection must be from a car that is being shot in front of your car. ie. laser is boucing of the car in front of you and a beam happens to bounc into your laser detector's receiver.
This is just no guarantee that you will receive advanced warning. If you are the one being shot at, when your alarm goes off you already got clocked.
Besides lasers are very narrow, sometimes the alarm doesn't even go off if you are being shot at a close distance < 400 ft.
For real laser protection you should use a laser jamming system, such as blinder xtreme m20. This way, when your car get hit with laser, your alarm will go off (too late now) but with a jammer the officer might not get a speed reading right away giving you time to slow down, and then turn off your jammer. (This way the officer will get the speed after you slowed down).
But seriously do you speed that much to justify spending $1000 on a whole system?
Check out the LPP jammer here, from what I've read so far, this is the best jammer there is. Laser Pro Park I think that's the full name.

First of all, laser detector != radar detector. So, find out what your local police force use and get the proper countermeasure.
Next, laser detectors aren't very effective. You will have much better luck with scramblers. But scramblers are illegal.

Nah not $1000 but I figured I'd be nice to have something, Cobra, Whistler, and Escort seems to be the most common on ebay, then theres Valentine and some other ones but they get up there in prices too.
Video seems cool but if you had a scrambler and you're the only car around they'll pull you over for sure.Last edited by StoneColdWhat; Apr 1st, 2007 at 10:52 PM.

or better yet, just giveup and don't speed on public road. Speeding ticket is a cash grab, reason for insurance company to charge you more, and if you care about global warming, it is fuel consuming (and therefore increased CO2 production)
I wonder if there is anything people do that doesn't contribute to CO2 ..._______________
You may be stressed, but so am I, this is not settled. What? Ultra ********? Violently funny?

All radar detectors are. I think the guy who mentioned it is just saying valentine1 might be undetectable, the other one "undetectable" detector is Beltronics STI driver.
Both are very pricy though. And if you get hit by POP instant on radar or laser there is very little chance of advanced warning.
