I've deployed SP2 across 4 machines in the household. I did not notice any difference, but then again, SP2 does no harm so there's no reason to avoid it.

I tried loading it last night, but it failed for unexplained reason.. tried again, after rebooting and shutting down everything running in the tray.. same thing

I loaded sp2 a while back. Didn't see much difference but it didn't brick the OS, so why not

With SP2, many are experiencing problems with ver 4.00 of eset nod32 antivirus.
I too did experience bsods & hangs on my vista x64 sp2 and now changed to kaspersky suite 2009 without any problems. I also had Zonealarm running along with nod32, tried all sorts of combinations (updated versions) and in the end went with KIS.
nod32 ver 2.7 seems running fine with sp2 as per a google search lookup. I'm also not sure whether eset fixed the problem with their latest ver 4.

the funny thing with my vista sp2 install was my antivirus (bitdefender) quarantine some of the sp2 extracted files thinking it was trojan files LOL it was near end of install and when it quarantined it shutdown(cuz I check the box shutdown auto after extract), so I couldnt do anything...
when vista try to boot up next time, it wont
boot, try the last good config didnt work
had to use vista cd and repair vista -.-
so just shut down your antivirus when you install_______________
