MacRumors has some last minute leaks en-route to Tuesday's Lets Rock event. Arn's sources claim that the entire iPod lineup will be refreshed and the heavily rumored iPod nanos will make the move from 4GB/8GB capacities and 6 color choices to 8GB/16GB configurations in 9 color variations -- purple, orange, and yellow will be the new choices. Interestingly, the iPod touch will continue to be offered in 8GB/16GB/32GB choices which sets them up for the rumored price cuts we've been expecting ever since Apple kicked out the iPhone 3G for $199.

Everyone has pretty much spilled the beans on this stuff weeks ago. They are announcing new iPods, and iTunes 8.0, which has new music collaboration features that automatically reccomend new songs for you it thinks you will like.

Apple supposedly stated the event is a "big deal" which they don't normally do with simple product updates. So expect one new item with their "one more thing".

I like the new headphones. This would work nicely with the new ipod touch that I am planning on buying.
Apple is introducing new headphones with these iPods, with a pause/play feature, as well as track navigation and volume controls right on the cord. There's also a microphone on the new headphones, which will cost $29 and be available in October.

The only thing that surprised me was that they're keeping the back of the Touch steel and not plastic. Not enough reason for me to feel bad about my first gen 16gb Touch. I would have felt a bit like upgrading if GPS was built in but GPS is no good without a data connection with Google Maps.
I have to say that I think Jobs did go a bit far by claiming the Touch is "the best portable device for playing games". I have to admit there are some quality titles most of which are simple puzzle games, but I think I'll take a DS or PSP with proper controls over my Touch any day. Maybe if they ever get haptic feedback into the thing, maybe that would make an on screen d-pad and buttons work but at the moment it doesn't unless your playing a simple game. But try playing Ashphalt 4 and compare that to say Ridge Racer for the PSP (a 4 year old title now) and tell me the Touch offers a better experience.
I don't think Nintendo will loose any sleep over this.

Wondering how long it will take for Canadian online store to start selling the new models.
Was on the verge of buying a new touch from Apple when I noticed that standard free shipping would take from 3 to 8 days... Decided to wait to buy local.
Hopefully, Staples would sell it. They have free overnight shipping and we could use coupons! (one can dream...)

Everythings up on the Canada Apple site already. As always, we pay more than the americans. 8GB Touch is 259 vs 229.

Wow that was disappointing. was totally wrong. No one more thing, nothing really "new", just upgrades and features stolen form other products.
