I am surprised that you thought their prices were high, since they are pretty much the cheapest out there, except Direct Buy of course![]()
Appliance Canada has a very small profit margin (not more that 7/8% from cost) that's what the sales men told me...unless he lied![]()
We did buy 4 appliances from Appliance Canada, even though we have the DB membership, because we had the 5% cashback reward CT Master Card (back in the days of course before it died), so it was a better option for us, since DB was cash/debit only...plus we were able to get the promotion from KitchenAid, the way they wrote down the invoice

& with DB we would NOT have gotten our KitchenAid bonus.
But they do have very good prices, maybe the sales person you talked to just gave you a 'ball park' figure which was really off from actual price. I suggest you go back & take your # again & get an exact price.

Appliance Canada
Has anybody here bought something from it. It looks a bit like Direct Buy. We went to the show room and there was no price tags on mdses. We're required to take a number and assigned a sales rep. It was like "tell me which one you like, and I will give you a ballpark figure". Unfortunately, his ballpark is so big that Barry Bonds can't hit a home run.

I've never liked AC, though I had to buy from them once a number of years back as part of a home purchase. The service was okay, but we found the pricing to be high when compared to other retailers at the time (like The HomeShow - now the Brick).

When we moved to our new house I purchased all of my appliances from Appliance Canada.
The are good if you are buying more than one appliance at a time. They give you a quote for package and not the individual items.
- KitchenAid stove
- KitchenAid fridge
- KitchenAid over stove microwave
- Maytag dishwasher
- Whirlpool Washer and Dryer
- Central Vac
This was all pretty mid range stuff and even without the $800 central Vac a friend who worked at Sears came back with a quote $2200 more than AC
AC was supposed to deliver on the day of the Big blackout but never showed up. They did however show up the next day with everything and set it all up in the locations where we wanted them and removed all the boxes and packaging.
I would rate it as a very good experience. The only drawback was I couldn't plug anything in to test since we had no power

The way to get the best price is: choose the appliances you want and write down the model numbers. Go to Appliance Canada and get a quote. Then go to Tasco and get a quote. Then call each in turn until they bottom out. I did this and ended up buying from Tasco because he got some special manufacturer rebate that AC couldn't get. Even with that, the Tasco guy told me his margin was less than $400 on a 10k package. Free shipping too.

The only problem with that is that AC will not give you a quote on paper...I had to write down the prices, so what can you take to Tasco, it's just your word... I tried to match AC with Tasco, they told me that they are almost not making any money & told me go buy it at AC.
AC knows that people get quotes from them & got to Sears, or other places & price match....so they don't like to do that anymore. Unless you secretly record them or something

He gave us a quote on the 3 pieces Miele cook top, $1,200 each and the bigger exhaust fan that an extra $2,000. They have some very unique appliances that you won't find at Sears etc. Even if they listed the prices, we wouldn't know where to find another store that would carry them or the time . It might be something that we would consider when we build the basement.

+1 for Appliance Canada. This is where I got my appliances. Their prices were the lowest I could find. Also, they had everything I wanted in stock for immediate delivery.

Does anyone know what delivery options AC has? I couldn't find anything on the website.

They deliver, Monday to Saturday and delivery should be free for new appliances. At least delivery was free for the items I purchased. Even if delivery wasn't free, I would have paid because the items weighed too much and weren't cheap. If the delivery people damage the items, I get a replacement

Our builder used them for our appliances. Last time I went to look for upgrades (1 year or so ago), the "upgrade" price was listed inside the door of the appliances on a sticker. Stoves were a decent price; however I found the fridges to be expensive and at the time they didn't have much that I liked. The upgrade prices seemed like they wern't taking the full of the base units price into account; but then again I could have just been suffering from sticker shock

+1
Their selection was not that good and prices were really high compared to Brick or even Futureshop...and their customer service?
I won't even bother going there...We tried upgrading from the basic appliances that came from the builder and was not happy with their price/selection. So we took delivery of their crappy stuff, and sold them all and bought amazing SS appliances from Brick.

Not a fan
Our builder deals with AC, and we made an appointment to go in to check out the standard appliances and see what we wanted to upgrade.
First off, our sales rep made us wait at the front for AN HOUR AND A HALF past our appointment time!!!!
We were so frustrated we would have left, but the receptionist kept telling us he'll only be a few more minutes.
Once he came he hardly appologized at all. So he showed us the standard appliances, and he gave us rough estimates at how much we'd pay for the upgrades we wanted, plus quoted us on extra appliances we wanted to purchase, claiming that we were getting a discount on them. NOPE!
We found their items way overpriced, and since our customer serivce experienced was so horrible, we decided to delete our appliances from our builder and get the $3150 credit instead (for 3 stainless appliances). Now we're pricing around and we can get all 6 of our appliances for $4000 elsewhere.

If you're buying the appliances directly, there's room to negotiate on the prices. If you're "upgrading" appliances from the builder, you can't negotiate so ask your builder for the credit as soon as possible. I learned this the hard way.
When I took delivery of my appliances, Appliance Canada's delivery guys were efficient and very careful not to damage the appliances or my house. Unfortunately, I later found out that they accidentally broke a small piece of my fridge while they were dismantling it in order to get it through my front door. I called Appliance Canada about it and they told me that since they dismantled it, my warranty was voided. Consequently, they refused to help me.Last edited by CrazyFace; Mar 14th, 2008 at 07:46 PM.
