Where to buy Motorola SB6120 Cable Modem (Teksavvy)?

I want to sign up with Teksavvy cable internet, and need this modem for their highest tier of service, their site says it's currently out of stock. Anyone know where I might be able to get it cheaper?

If you paid for 15mbps, your max rate will always be close but less than that. Rogers cable and those that use their system, "cheat" on speed tests. Your best bet is to download a big file from a reliable server (such as MS) and see the average speed there.

I heard SB6121 is coming out that's why it's hard to find SB6120 in stock.

Lots of people reporting that the SB6120 magically solves many congestion issues people were having with the SB5101. I'm looking for the 6120, with little luck. eBay has a few, as well as Amazon.com

I'm using a sb5100 and sometimes suffer from slowdowns. I see that the sb6120 on Newegg.com is $74.99 with free shipping in the US. Wonder if I should ask my Ameri-friend to get me one.

What's the main difference between DOCSIS 2 and 3? I have the old SA 2600 which is a DOCSIS 2 modem on Rogers Express (can finally switch to Tek after April! ), is there any reason for me to upgrade?

Depends on your throughput (ie. what speed did you purchase). In theory (based on the standards), all three levels support the same downstream throughput (38Mbps), though 3.0 supports n channels and hence can be scaled up if you have multiple devices. Upstream throughput goes up, but that's pretty useless for most users. But I have found that most ISPs (well the ones that control the lines) scale down the maximum based on the line. For example, with Rogers if you connect to their 25 or 50Mbps plans, they switch you to their DOCSIS 3.0 line which can handle the bandwidth, though to get more money they tell you to switch once you reach past 15Mbps, since that's close to the maximum realistic throughput of 2.0.

If you do make sure you check the serial/MAC number with Rogers before buying one. If those are unreturned rentals (or more likely fell off the back of a truck from how many are in those pictures), then it will make for a very nice paperweight as Rogers will never provision it.

I'm now looking for the SB6121 because apparently the SB6120 has been discontinued. You can read about the differences between a DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 2.0 modem here:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r254066 ... a-question.

I think it's worth it to go with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Teksavvy is currently in the process of asking Rogers to allow them use the SB6121 because some Rogers customers have begun using them.

How much discount can we get for the SB6120 with group buy? New or used? I don't really care if it is used or new as long as it works and comes with everything.

You know what, I might be willing to organize a Group Buy for this, if need be... I see a lot of people are in the same boat as I am, so if we can get a bunch of these modems from the states at a decent price, hell, why not!

Then again, the best we can do is $75 (with free shipping to a US address) + shipping across the border and any duties/taxes. Might not be that much of a saving, unless someone knows someone in the States...
