just wanted to find out if you guys would accept a builder putting mismatched brick colors on the house where it may (?) eventually be covered by flashings/soffit/gutters?
for example, the last 2 layers of bricks right now in certain spots a house being built are colored orange, the rest of the bricks are grayish/stone color like. there are about 20-25 pcs of bricks like this. i think the builder failed to order the adequate amount of bricks and just used someone's else's houses' bricks. the subcon prolly couldnt care less since they think it would be covered anyway.
what's your thoughts/suggestions? we did sign the contract stating the specs of the bricks - the flashings, gutters, etc havent been installed. note that the mismatched bricks are really unmatched (orange vs gray), not just regular manufacturing tolerances.
do we ask the builder we want it done right? or do we let it go? iactually im not 100% sure if indeed these mismatched bricks would be covered later by the flashings/gutter as that's just my best hunch (since these bricks on the top 2 layers usually - some just at the last layer, some the last 2 layers). has anyone encountered such an issue?
thanks

If you're never going to see it after all the soffit etc is installed, whats the issue?

Pictures will definitely help everybody to give you proper advice, but bottom line are you going to be happy.

Most builders are A$$#&$s. They have no education in customer service. Pick your battles. If you can't see it, pretend it does not exist. Concentrate your efforts in things that matter more.

thanks guys. the problem is that there's no assurance that it won't be seen. that's just a hunch that i have (am not the builder). either way, the bottom line of where im going to be happy is the best solution, hence let's see what the builder have to say and if im happy with their answer or not.

Wait til you do your PDI before closing. If its still noticeable, THEN put it on your list. Actually when doing your PDI, put EVERYTHING on it no matter how small or insignificant. If its going to be covered by flashing/soffits then there's nothing you can do about it. If you bring it to the builder's attention now they will just make sure its harder for you to do a weekly/bi-weekly check of the construction progress fearing more complaints. Or they may be nice enough to accomodate your request (unlikely).

thanks, yeah i wasnt sure whether it's going to be covered by flashing/soffits - so ill just wait then. i was more wondering if this is normal (eg. substitute what cant be seen after it's finished). will wait for the PDI and scrutinize all these things. is this how things are done here in Toronto? (eg. so long as it cant be seen, then doesnt matter, so when i resell, it doesnt matter either - i was worried that if we resell and the buyer does see this, then they come after me for not disclosing these things, or if a home inspector asks us to replace it later on since the colors are mismatched)

As long as its the same type/rated brick and is up to code and not visible, noone can force you to change it. As for the builder, if you read through your purchase agreement/contract there is a disclaimer which allows for substitutions of material/colour as long as its to code or similar to what was agreed. It gives the builder a little leeway in case eg: the tile colour you ordered isn't available anymore. Honestly, don't worry about it. If it is that noticeble then I doubt it'll be viewable when complete. The builders rep is on the line too. Post a pic if you can.
