Hello,

I am looking for the whole sunroof mechanism for my car. Recently I have been having trouble with. Does anyone know of anyone that may have either recently totaled their VW golf or know of anyone. Recently someone had on here, but never got back to me.

Its going to be real expensive if I get it fixed with the parts and labour and buy it new. But if I get the whole piece used, it wont take them long at all.

Thanks

You can try searching junk yards but it'll be hard to find the entire thing in good condition.

Try this: http://www.car-part.com/

If you are willing to look outside AB, try some of the places here in BC - this Watercooled Mecca - try Google'ing Autobahn Dismantler's in Langley - they are located beside HPA and have a ton of stuff. You can also try Denon Performance in Port Coquitlam (the owner is Ron Johnson who used to run Ron's Parts).

GTI's - I've had a few (and loved each and everyone one of them)

Thanks for the tip. One good thing is I can still open it up, it just wont retract. The dealershio has no idea how the one side trck got bent. I miss using the open sunroof.

have you tried Denon perfomance like I suggested? or Autobahn Dismantlers? RPI, HPA & Hotwater Performance are also good bets - all here in the Lower Mainland.

Also, try posting on:

You still haven't bought this yet? $200 from Langley seems like a good price - shipping should be reasonable.

Same prob on the car I want to get, it is a frequent problems with most VW made in early 1990. Something in the assembly breaks so you have to replace the whole thing, sometimes just the track if you're lucky.

GL!

Thats what happened, something got bent. Stupid thing was the 10 year warranty ended a few months earlier.

I should just get this done, but I dont have the extra cash right now. But then, when do we really have "extra" cash

Careful now, if you start to try to use your sunroof, you could end up with a nasty scratch. I think a junkyard or Ebay might help. Worst, go back to VW, they have a newer assembly model made.

The sunroof goes into the roof, not over it. Something got bent on the track that wont let it retract, Dealer replacement is about $1000

Right, it goes into it but when the gear is messed up, it knocks the sunroof higher to scratch the paint.

The sunroof is glass. So you can have the inside lid open in the winter and the sun shines through it. I like this better then the ones that are the same colour as the car, its either all or nothing with those

That would make it a moonroof (as opposed to sunroof) then. ;)

Let me try to get this staright. Mine is the glass top, not the painted one thats the colour of the roof. So when you open the shade inside, you can see out of it when tis closed. Is that a moonroof or sunroof.

Whats mk3

Mk3 is a 3rd generation Golf/Jetta (starting around '92, I think) also known an A3. Moonroof /Sunroof - whatever - just call that place here in BC that I called for you and tell them what you want. I know you were tight on $$$ when I found them for you, but with the difficulty you have had finding one - you probably should have snagged it and pay it off on your credit card slowly - It was only $200 plus shipping. Yes, I know they were sold out last time you called, but they get in new wrecks all the time.

if it's just a single part i can most likely get the single part. but if you want the entire thing with seals etc. they'd have to have a wreck there.
