Need to revitalize this thread as this show is one of the best but might not make it.

Peope are too caught up in really bad television (reality tv) to realize there are other good shows out there.

That's sad that a good comedy like AD (never actually watched it b/c I ALWAYS work Sunday Nights), get's canned when crap reality shows like The Bachelorette (sp?) comes back for more 3x a year. I have not watched prime time television in 2 years (save for the odd news special) and I don't think I'm missing much at this point. I want to get into AD - maybe Fox will put it on another night or HBO will pick it up if it does get canned. BTW, anyone ever watch Nip/Tuck? My cousin got into this (bought season 1 DVD without even watching or hearing about it) and he absolutely loves it.

you know something. I think I've watched it once this year. I still love the show, but got tired of the switch in times on a week to week basis.

It's not like 24 that I can't miss...

I will renew the efforts though...

If this show gets cancelled, s*** is going to fly. Seinfeld, Fraiser, then the cancellation of Enterprise, and now maybe Arrested Development. What the heck am I supposed to watch? Reality? The last thing we need is another show about real life, TV is supposed to be an escape.

I really think Fox will pick up this show at least for the beginning of Season 3. I know they cut the order for this season short (by two episodes), but Fox seems to be making some effort to assure people that AD will not be cancelled.

This is the message from http://fox.com/arresteddev/

Dear Arrested Development Fans:

Thank you for your e-mail and your passionate support of Arrested Development. While the show has finished production for its second season, contrary to the rumors you may have heard or read on the internet, it is NOT cancelled.

We at FOX love Arrested Development and we look forward to having the Bluth family back on FOX in the future – hopefully for many years. You can help make the show a bigger success by getting as many people as possible to start watching the show this Sunday and every Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Sincerely,
Fox Broadcasting Company

At any rate, I hope the ratings pick up. There are some great guest starts in the next few weeks, like Julia Louis Dreyfus and Zack Braff. And Bateman was pretty good on SNL this past weekend.

Hey brother

They're not switching times - it's just on sporadically. But for next week, they're replacing AD with a repeat of the Simpsons - sadly, the reality is more people will watch that over a new episode of AD. I was also pretty mad when I found out American Dad is bumping AD starting May 1st.

Just so everyone knows - the next new episode is...

Sunday March 6th at the regular time (8:30 pm) and it's a double episode (an hour long). Spread the word!

I was wondering how many people would pick up that Homer (Dan Castellaneta) did a cameo on tonights episode. I was hoping he would do the Homer voice throughout the show, but his discrete "doh" was funny. AD is simply the best comedy on TV today.

Tobias: Well, yes, but I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands.

He only said that they may not be biological cousins....but when he talked about the film, the narrator said that the studio was keen to emphasize that the leads were not actually cousins, so I take that to apply to GM and Maeby too.

Yep, exactly what I said. The whole British mafia spy thing screams misunderstanding. They're deliberately creating double meanings and whatnot, but it seems like she's in the preschool and not teaching there; the old guy called her "some stupid person", etc.

This is precicely the reason why and the kind of show that belongs on showtime or HBO. Hopefully one of the premium networks pick it up and move it there. With the success of The Sheild on FX, you'd think Fox would take critically acclaimed shows like AD and move it there. Sure it failed to build a HUGE audience on network TV, but it had its rabid fans and won many awards. It's worth keeping the investment alive. Move it to the premium F/X and find another reality TV crapfest to fill its place on network tv.

This is a show I regret not checking out from the beginning, which happened because I'm sick and tired of Fox teasing us with great shows that they yank off the air. HYSTERICAL DEVELOPMENT: Leave it to Arrested Development to mine the tragedy of its imminent death for laughs. Per Variety, series creator Mitch Hurwitz is planning an episode that will poke fun at Fox's decision to reduce the show's episode order from 22 to 13, effectively canceling it. In the episode, titled "S.O.B." for "Save Our Bluths," the Bluth clan considers throwing a fund-raiser to save their construction company from shutting down. In one scene, Jason Bateman's Michael notes, "Our backs are against the wall.... It's just hard for me to accept that it's really come to begging." There's even a conversation about whether the Home Builders Organization — HBO — might be willing to come to their rescue. That idea is quickly nixed though, leading George Sr. to say, "I guess it's Showtime. We'll put on some kind of show at the [fund-raiser]." Meanwhile, after reading this item on TVGuide.com, the American public released the following statement: "Huh? I don't get that last joke. I told you this show was dumb."

it would be so easy to pick things up again on another network. michael and george michael could just turn around again, like the time they were moving in a previous episode.

so either way it works out, if its done for good, it ended on a good note, but if its not done, than its not hard to pick things up again.

Here's some AR news, looks like we may be out of luck if/when AR comes back on.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117940467?cs=1&s=h&p=0

Arrested Development" creator Mitch Hurwitz says he will not be continuing with the series, throwing a major -- likely fatal -- monkey wrench into attempts to keep the Emmy-winning laffer alive for a fourth season.
Series producers 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TelevisionImagine Television had agreed on a deal to move "Arrested," previously on Fox, to Showtime -- assuming Hurwitz was willing to come back. In the end, however, a mix of creative and financial concerns has prompted Hurwitz to move on.

"The fans have been so ardent in their devotion and in return ... I've given everything I can to the show in order to try to live up to their expectations," Hurwitz told Daily Variety on Monday in a telephone interview from GothamGotham. "I finally reached a point where I felt I couldn't continue to deliver that on a weekly basis."

Nonetheless, Hurwitz said he put off making a final decision on his involvement so Showtime and 20th could talk about a possible deal.

"Of course, if there was enough money in it, I would have happily abandoned the fans' need for quality. But as it turns out, there wasn't," he said.

Indeed, Hurwitz and 20th have long been at odds over finances, sparring over everything from the show's budget to Hurwitz's own compensation. The two sides were unable to come to terms on an overall deal last year, and while creative concerns were clearly at play in Hurwitz's decision, coincoin may have been a key factor, insiders said.

Hurwitz said he had briefed most of the show's cast about his decision, as well as some of the writers. He also talked with exec producer-narrator Ron HowardRon Howard, who asked Hurwitz if he would be willing to continue as a consultant on "Arrested" should 20th and Imagine find a network willing to continue the skeinskein without Hurwitz.

"I said I'd be happy to do that, but that as showrunner, I've gone as far as I can go," he said.

Showtime entertainment toppertopper Bob Greenblatt made it clear in January that Hurwitz's participation in the show was essential to a deal (Daily Variety, Jan. 20). With Hurwitz out of the equation, Showtime is no longer a viable home for "Arrested," insiders said.

It doesn't help that one of Hurwitz's key deputies, exec producer Jim Valleley, also says he won't do the show without his boss. "We couldn't do the show without Mitch Hurwitz, and I wouldn't want to be the guy who tried," Valleley said, who called the apparent end of the show "heartbreaking."

Hurwitz said he had lunch with Showtime entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt even though he was leaning against continuing with the show. "He was actually very persuasive in telling me how much he believed in the show. I walked away thinking, 'Maybe,' " Hurwitz said.

Despite word of tension between Hurwitz and 20th, scribe said the studio and its sister net deserve credit for having produced and aired three seasons of the show.

"I can honestly say I'm appreciative. They put a lot of money into this, and I put a lot of my life into this," he said.

He also hinted that while "Arrested" may have run its course as a TV show as far as he's concerned, he would be interested in reviving the franchise as a feature film.

Reps for 20th and Showtime declined comment. One person familiar with the studio's thinking, however, said fans of the show shouldn't write an obit for "Arrested" just yet, noting 20th is the studio that revived "Family Guy."

LOS ANGELES -- The Emmy-winning "Arrested Development" is gone from FOX, but a new deal giving the show an afterlife ensures it won't be forgotten for a while.

In a unique agreement, reruns of the fiercely loved comedy will debut on three different platforms -- online, basic cable and high-definition TV -- at nearly the same time later this year. Microsoft's MSN will have streaming-video rights to the show, G4 has picked up the cable rights and HDNet will air the show in high-def.

"'Arrested Development' is exactly the right property to roll out on these exciting new media platforms," say Dana Walden and Gary Newman, presidents of "Arrested" producer 20th Century Fox TV. "It's a win for both the loyal and passionate fans who adored the show during its network run and the millions more who will now have a chance to discover its genius."

The saga of the formerly rich and wildly dysfunctional Bluth family will premiere on HDNet in September, with G4 following suit in October. Episodes will also begin streaming on MSN around the same time; they'll be free and supported by ads.

"Arrested Development" won six Emmys in its first two seasons, including the award for best comedy in 2004. It's up for four more awards this year, including best comedy and best supporting actor in a comedy for Will Arnett.

Despite the awards, critical hosannas and a very loyal core audience, however, the show never broke out as a hit. In 2005-06, it averaged only about 4.2 million viewers a week; the final episodes aired in February.

The show will represent a bit of a departure for G4, which is available in 57 million homes. The network, which targets young men, began its life as a channel devoted to videogames, though it's since expanded its offerings some to include animation and reruns of "Star Trek" and "The Man Show.

For the same reason you should believe this hundred dollar bill is no more than a hundred pennies!

"Well...where'd the lighter fluid come from?"
~after Gob fails to ignite his 'magic' lighter fluid trick~

I love that line, they've done it a few times.

For the fans, Will Arnett (along with his wife Amy Poehler, who also played his "wife" on AD) will be in the upcoming movie Blades of Glory as a rival brother-sister team to Will Ferrell and Jon Heder.

It ain't easy being white.
It ain't easy being brown.
All this pressure to be bright.
I got children all over town.

I know this is an old thread but I started watching this show on CBC and got hooked! I immediately went out and bought the seasons (too bad I missed the $30 deal). I watched every episode and I am so sad they cancelled this show!

The show is layerd so well, you can keep watching it over and over and find new jokes.

When I grew up I want to be an ANALRIPST like Tobias Funke!
