The original contest winning thread I created years and years ago got closed, and for no reason.

Heres the email

Hi Spidey,

The following thread that you created has been closed

Thread: Things I've won

Please read the RFD rules and if this doesn't answer your questions, please contact an administrator for assistance.

Since Im the one that brought many on here to the world of contesting and winning, why is it fair to close a thread like this I created. Just because it lists the stuff I won.

There is no bad language in it, there are the haters in their complaining they have to read it, but other than that, just a list of things I won

This list I have shown has started many people down the path of contesting, yet they just close it for no reason

Have your voice heard, and get it brought back. Have they changed the forum rules, if thats the case than the other contest thread where everyone posts should be closed as well, they are the same thing.

I also use my thread as a place to send people to what I have won.

I sure would like to hear a public reason admins

After all these years, why all of a sudden now

They just moved this thread from the contest area to Site Suggestions. Either or I have posted in the main contest thread again making other people aware

Its been 4 hours now, and still no one has messaged back to the reason why it was closed

It is possible that they want everyone to post their winnings in the winning thread only. Who knows.

Thats a thought. But the reason that one is around is because of this thread. And its an active viewed thread as well.

Well, you could start a new one, and post a link to the old one for those who want to see older wins.

I know it sucks getting it closed, but do you really have time to waste with RFD mods (who clearly read your question since they moved your thread to suggestions but haven't answered)?

I wish I won as many trips, electronics , and cash prizes as you.
Actually, I never won a trip, electronics, or cash prizes. lol

I could, but then that would be the exact same thing. I dont see what its hurting leaving an active used thread open.

Agreed. While I appreciate the moderators cracking down on the pointless, stupid threads, some threads I feel they are closing them wrongly and it's like the mods are abusing their power. "I don't like this. BE GONE!" At least post a reason as to why the thread is locked!

Funny thing it has been open this long, and actually had some inactivity since January, but I posted something new and then suddenly locked

So it was fine sitting there unlocked without a reply, but as soon as I do someone notices and decides

Come on mods, stop hiding, and maybe give your members, who withour the website would be nothing, an answer

I voted yes for two reasons:
1. it's really nothing more than a (long) blog post. Should each contest player start creating their own thread listing their wins?
2. it's probably more appropriate content for the contest section. perhaps a general thread in that forum for ppl to list their wins would be more appropriate.

Maybe they dont think that the thread attracts new users to the site.

I send anyone that wants to know to RFD family for friends, which means a potential new member when they view as a guest. Members are what made the site and keep the site going. Without traffic, their wouldnt be RFD

Devil's advocate.. Would it became a problem if everybody had their own personal thread where they continue to blog about something they are interested in? Bumping it every few weeks or days to make an update? The thread is essentially a list of your winnings. You make mention of another thread where everyones winnings are posted, why not post there? If you want a central location to post all of you winning make a blog and put a link in your signature.

Because RFD off topic is not yours, or anyones personal blog. If too many people started just blogging in offtopic there would just be the same threads that the OPs keep bumping continuously. I say combine it with the thread in contests. Thats what it's there for.

The reason I dont post there is that thread is there because of the one I started. And I dont want to post there, I want to use what Ive been using for 5+ years.

I dont want to get a blog, I use this to keep track and to send people to. Why start from scratch when this has been working fine for so many years

I dont see the harm in having it, plus have you read 3/4 of the crap in off topic. If this gets closed, then the entire off topic should be too.

and 5+ years I've always thought it should have been in a blog and a link in your signature. I've honestly reported it many times and have seen it locked and unlocked. I didn't report it this last time (I didn't see it), but off topic is not blogger. Other than "I don't want too" why should you be able to have a personal thread that only you bump every one in a while? Can you honestly say you can't see the issues that would arise of many more people started doing it?

IMHO It should be combined with the thread in the contest section, or at the very least moved to the contest section.

I have asked it to be moved there, and thats actually where it started. Thats where the idea of the other one came from. But it got moved by the mods awhile back.

Why report it, I dont understand why people get so pissy about a thread that they read. Did I make you read it, did I make you click the link? Yet people complain when theyb "have" to read it

I "bump" it to show and help the other contestors on the site. Ive explained above, tons of started and won contests now becuase of me, because of that one thread.

a bump showing progress in contesting and winning shows others that it can happen

I didn't feel I needed to read it, I didn't think it was appropriated for the reasons I outlined above. Not everybody that reports something is reporting because it is necessarily bothering them, I report things based on what I perceive to be the rules, so I would kindly request that you do not put words in my mouth.

I dont see why you cant maintain one post in the Contest Wins thread and update that post instead of having a whole thread for yourself?

you can still link that post in your signature... and it'd be much more organized than scrolling through pages of different "03/09/2011, LCBO: bottle of wine" etc etc...

oh come on that's seriously bordering on the ridiculous. how long of a thread would mine be if i started posting every free ticket and $2 prize I've won from 6/49 since joining this site.

you make reference to directing people to this site and helping them win because of your thread, well i can safely say that need has passed. contesting is extremely popular and there are quite a few resources that can be found on FB, Twitter, and Google (heck Google alone will direct back to RFD's contest forum as it is just by the sheer number of contributors it has). it's really not as important now as it may have been 10 years ago.

On a side note, mods are still being chickens**s. Ive messaged 2-3 times about why, and all Im getting is dead air.

I voted yes just based on the fact that we have a "Look what I won" thread in Contests already. I don't really see the need to have another post dedicated purely for your wins only.

If they're trying to crack down on "blog" type posts in Off-Topic, I can see why they closed it. It's not really a discussion type thread. My guess is that it fell under the Low-Content category.

But I would have expected a mod to give you final word as to why.

Okay, to make both sides happy, why dont we:

1. Unlock spideys personal wins thread
2. Move it to Contest forum
3. Merge current global wins thread with spideys (not the other way around)
4. Sticky the merged thread just like before

This way, spidey gets his thread back and also stickied forever in the contest forum, and everyone else is happy because there's no more personal blog thread. Not to mention spidey will be the OP for the wins thread.

Sorry for the delay, RL was getting in the way.

I felt this thread was adding no value to promote any discussion. Yes it was around for a while but trust me I've been wanting to close it for a while since my first mod stint years back.

You're more than welcome to add your new winnings in the contest thread. Merging the two will break the current continuity of the existing thread in the Contest forum.

I think that thread in the Contest could add more value by saying the exact contest entered and the resulting prize won. This way some statistics could be done if somebody is curious enough to do so. Anybody could post I won $$ from 6-49/LottoMax and this is in the 100K+ winners every Wed, Fri & Sat based on the stats I've seen.

Whether Oran or other mods chooses to re-open I'll let that up to them but I have no plans doing so.

Thanks for the explanation, but the bolded above sure sounds a little vendetta-ish to me. Maybe just the way it is written

Actually my list does say the prize and where I won it from. And if you wanted to close it years ago, why wasnt it just made a sticky and then changed to everyone could of added to it like the new contesting win thread there is now.

I moved all my wins from that one to that new thread. Is that ok, or is that going against forum rules. Thanks

Just signed int RFD after 3 years and I see nothing's changed.

(as for poll question, i voted yes - it added no value then and it adds no value now).

Should my contest win thread of been closed - english does not compute

Now there's a contribution...not.

I voted yes for two reasons:
1. it's really nothing more than a (long) blog post. Should each contest player start creating their own thread listing their wins?
2. it's probably more appropriate content for the contest section. perhaps a general thread in that forum for ppl to list their wins would be more appropriate.

That's a totally specious argument. Spidey's been doing this for 5 years and 'each contest player' (in fact not one contester) has done the same thing. You can 'what if' this to death, but it doesn't change that fact.

I was referring to how you mentioned you've sent them 2 or 3 messages already.

Maybe you should just get over it. Don't you have better ways to spend your time?

Oooh, the irony! Don't you have a better way to spend YOUR time? You've posted SIX times in this thead. Pot, kettle, black?
