Strange problem with chipped MBNA Smart Cash Card

Got it last week. For the very first transaction (60$ gas) got to swipe the card, so transaction accepted. After that, each time card introduced in chip reader, asked to confirm amount of transaction, then message saying "processing...", then another message saying "amount exceeded". Never given a chance to enter the NIP. Called twice MBNA and each time was put thru their automated system to change NIP. Obviously, they don't seem to understand the problem! And no, I'm not trying to charge large amounts to the card (all the failed attempts were for 20 to 30$ charges). Anyone experiencing same issue?

I had similar problems where I had to have the cashier redo the transaction, even though I use other chip cards no problem. Also, when I changed my PIN with that automated system I still had to use the old PIN for awhile. Actually I was going to try again and then finally the old PIN got denied. Works fine now
