15 bucks for a 38 piece fireworks set, says the retail value is 57 dollars.....
Think its worth it? From what I remember last year, 15 bucks normally gets you almost nothing

Had a couple vouchers so bought 2 kits. We will see if it's worth it. If not then no harm done, no money out of pocket.

How did they screw you? Nobody made you buy this.. something you should have learned from RFD long before now is that if you wait, there is always a better deal

Picked up one kit. For $15, it's worth the risk for a potentially crappy "family pack". However, figuring what is likey to happen when you go and pick up your piddly box of fireworks. I went to their site and it looks like up until May 16 they have some pretty good discounts on a majority of their fireworks. Basically, it's a pre-order system, you don't have to pay until you pick them up. Also, looking at some past RFD posts the prices are the same or cheaper then some price people posted up in 2009. So I figure I might pre-order a few extra fireworks at a discount to suppliment the "family pack".

from completely different companies, the only thing in common is that it is on wagjag, your stupidness in thinking that wagjag screwed you makes my head explode, I hope they don't refund you because you don't have a valid reason

I don't think any of us were being jerks, it just bothers me when people always blame the retailer and claim they got ripped off when they buy something and are not happy with it for something that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the product itself. Then they feel entitled to a refund just because they found something cheaper or better?
If anyone is screwing anyone, it is you who are screwing the rest of us wagjag customers if we ever have a legitimate reason to do a return we will be met with suspicion because of people who feel entitled to a refund because they found something they would like better.
And on topic, I grabbed one of the $15 ones and will see how it turns out.

wait so it's a 'pre-order'? "Buy" the voucher now and then pick up and pay for it at the store? So they only charge you at the time you pick it up? What happens if they run out of packages?

Sorry, this is probably some confusion from my post. No, you buy the voucher and present it at the location you specified when you bought the voucher. You don't have to pay anything when you pick it up.
The Pre-order is an option from Phatboy Fireworks website, where they have a discount on most of their fireworks until May 16. If you choose to take advantage of the Website discount then you pre-order specific fireworks on their site and pay for those fireworks when you pick them up.
The Wegjeg order and the phatboy fireworks pre-order discount are two different deals.

I just bought one and for 10.00 as I had a 5.00 credit in my wagjag account. Pretty awesome deal when you can get 38 different fireworks for 10.00 ....well 15.00. The money I saved I am going to use to buy the single ones which are typically much better than the packaged ones. This is going to make for a great May 24 holiday.
Oh and they are up to 4600+ sold now

People where I live- Walkley rd, they just do the fireworks in their backyard or in the park at night.
They also like to leave live bombs on the street too sometimes, so you have to watch out:-0
(that last part wasn't a joke....I really was across the street from a live bomb a year and a bit ago...only found out later...scary).
Any park at night should do for fireworks,I think

We are sending you this email in regards to a location change for the voucher you purchased for Victoria Day Special: $15 for a 38-Piece Fireworks Kit from Phatboy Fireworks (a $57 Value) - Only Until May 23 - 3 Locations. Waiting for voucher........................
Does anyone know when they give you the $10 referal credit, how that works?
UPDATED on May 17, 2011
I just got back after picking this up, there were 2 very small boxes of 12pcs, 1 small wrapped 6pcs and the other 8 were very small to small fireworks and this is definitely not worth $57! All in a shopping bag, not boxed.
To get a total of 38 pieces, they even count the quantities within the small boxes which are not sold individually.
To compare.........................They had a medium box of fireworks, tagged $44.99 and $29.99 w/coupon from TO Sun, which is much better, and with medium to large fireworks.
Not a Deal worth $15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointing but what do you expect? To sell the voucher for $15 means they're only getting $7-8 per sale. Assuming they want to barely break even, that means you're getting $7-8 of fireworks. Even with 100% markup you're getting a set of fireworks that retails for around $15.
To actually have a $57 value as advertised, they would either have to take a big loss on every single sale (the 5000+ of them) or they would have to have a normal markup of 800% (not completely out of the question I guess). I used $10 in wagjag bucks so this only cost me $5, even if it's just a few roman candles and a few other things that go BOOM I'm happy.

I do have to say at most the package is worth $30 top... most of these fireworks are old style bargain bin type
...5 shot roman candle... they cant even give us a 10 shot?? 5 shot is like a buck
EDIT: I do want to say without knowing what those 3 small boxes are, we cant tell how much this all worth, but from what is shown here excluding those 3 small boxes, it only worth $20-25... still a deal but aint no great deal, I think my estimate of $30 is correct and this deal pretty much is 50% off with the fact you are buying a pre-pack deal meaning you are getting stuff you usually dont want... I am still surprise they tossed in a 5 shot roman, god damn cheap *****

Using your image, I went to the phatboy website to try to price out what this would actually have cost.
I couldn't find the Super Nova, The Silver Comet, or the Candy Crackle,
..but everything else totaled $20.43 at the full price, and $13.03 at the current sale price. So unless all three of those small barrages cost around $12.20 a piece/36.57 in total (which they definitely do not), we're getting nothing near $57 dollars worth the fireworks.
We got about $15 worth of fireworks for $15. And by 'fireworks', I primarily mean sh*tty noisemakers.

Howdy again WagJaggers!
We have been in contact with Phatboy and the issue with incorrect quantities should be resolved now. At this time we are reccommending that you count your fireworks on site (including the ones in a package) when you redeem your voucher. If you have any trouble with your voucher for any reason you can call our customer service line and we will do our best to make it right.

wth? So how much were we supposed to get then?
ps. incorrect quantities my ***** . Sounds like Phatboy tried to pull a switcheroo on unsuspecting wagjaggers thinking they wouldn't noticed they were being ripped off. So what brought this to WagJag's attention? People bitched about the low quantities in their deal? Cause I highly doubt Phatboy's "mistake" in quantity was unintentional and they decided to let WagJag know of their mistake.

The guy even thought he was funny telling me they sold out of wagjag deals and I had to go to a hamilton location (which is hours away). He wasn't actually being serious but he thought it was funny to joke and waste my time.

Picked up mine last night as well as some other stuff I pre-ordered. I didn't expect much from this deal but what I got was even lower then my lowest expectations. Staff was reasonably pleasant at the Ajax location but I was a little shocked at tiny little bag of fireworks, the picture doesn't even do it justice. As a comparison I ordered a $32.99 family pack (which not surprisingly they didn't have in-stock), which they replaced with a $34.99 family pack. Point is the $32.99 family pack has more then double the $57 value Wagjag deal. I don't think I would have paid $5 for the fireworks I received. Again, wasn't expecting much but this is ridiculous! Based on a previous comment, I will be calling Wagjag to voice my concern. It's $15, I don't care about compensation, I just want them to avoid stupid "deals" like this in the future.

Here is what I actually got
Hellfire - 6.49
Hot Tamali - 3.00 or so
Rainbow Mine - 3.49
Thunderflash 2000 - 1.99 maybe?
Thunderflash 3000 - 1.99 maybe?
Silver Comet - 2.49
Super Nova - maybe 2.49? the firework label says its some company in brazil made for a company in quebec
6 Tazmanian Devils - 1.49
12 Mini air bomb - 2.99 for a pack of 6
12 fire cracklers which look completely useless and worth nothing - 4.99 for a pack of 72.......so divide that by 6...yea.....
Wagjag made it right though and now I have vouchers to use at Kaboom! where I'll be able to pick what I want
Edit - I went through their website and this is maybe worth 20 bucks.......I'd love to see what the deals are for Canada Day
Edit 2 - If you go to mystical fireworks website, which is where phatboy seems to have gotten their stock, you can get clearer pricing........looks to be approx 30 dollars for what was in my bag

OK, this is what they advertised on their sign in the store compared to what I received and what their actual prices are. I hope the table comes out formatted correctly. If it does not then basically their sign in the store comes to $50.89, not $57. The prices on their website actually come to $25.47 (this is even if I go with their "Sign" prices on the three items not on their website. This is ver generous because with all the items listed here only one of their "Sign" prices matches the website price. The fact that they added the HST to their "Sign" prices only makes it more of a ripoff because we had to pay taxes on the $15. Items that have a "/" in them means that the first item is what was on the sign and the second item is what i received.
When I talked to WagJag they said that I could get a $10 voucher good for my next purchase. After being scammed like this I have no intention of ever buying anything through WagJag or Phatboy again.
Item Price on Poster # Phatboy Web Price
Silver Comet $4.99 1 $1.99
Super Nova $4.99 1 $4.99 * Not on website
Thunderflash 2000 $1.99 1 $1.99 * Not on website
Thunderflash 3000
/Thunderflash 2000 $2.49 1 $2.49 * Not on website
Roman Candle, 5 shot $1.49 1 $0.49
Sky Rockets
/ Canadian Rockets with Report $2.99 12 $1.99
Hot Tamali $4.99 1 $2.49
Rainbow Mine with crackers
/ Shotgun Shell $4.99 1 $1.49
Fire Cracklers $3.99 12 $3.99/72 so this is really $0.67
Dancing Devils
/ Tazmanian Devils $2.99 6 $0.89
Emerald Storm/Illuminator $14.99 1 $5.99
Total $50.89 38 $25.47

I went to the oshawa location and while the WagJag voucher was a fail in itself I had a bad experience with buying a few additional fireworks to supplement the c rappy show I was about to put on for my friends
This is a bit from the email I sent to Phatboy and see if they respond:
I purchased a WagJag voucher for this Victoria weekend and when I went in to the Oshawa location to redeem it I also decided to pick up a few extras. I had to do this because I felt the advertised deal for the voucher was not very honest about what you would actually be receiving. But the issue that I am really writing to you about is my experience in the store.
When I was looking around for a good "finisher" something big and bright with a loud finish I was shown the "Gattling Gun" which was on "special" that weekend for $20.00. I decided to purchase this and some smaller rockets, the total I was told was about $24. When I was cashed out (by someone other than the person helping me originally) the total was $37!
He charged me $30 for the Gattling Gun, by the time I noticed this the receipt was printing for my transaction. When I asked about the price, the other employee working at the time said it was $20 but the cashier insisted it was $30. I asked for a refund and the cashier said he was unable to provide a refund because He didn't have enough cash in his till (I paid by Debit) He then showed me some "similar" fireworks that retailed for $20 and promised to refund the difference.
When I chose "Gangsta Blast" at $20 he handed me a $5 bill and two twoonies and a loonie from the till. This was incorrect as I had paid $37 dollars and change for what was now $25.99 incl tax. I decided not to argue this matter any longer and leave the store.
When I got home I went to the redflagdeals.com website to post about my experience I saw that your website also lists prices for fireworks, now I find out that the website prices are a LOT different than what I was charged in store. The Gattling Gun is in fact 19.99 and the one I was charged $20 for is listed as $11.99! I saw a few stickers on the outside of the cages for varied firework prices but none of the fireworks I was looking at had prices listed. I feel like I was taken advantage of by your company and would like you to try and turn my experience around

I'm also going to contact WagJag and see what they say about how this deal was advertised.

How do you not call this a scam? They claimed that we were getting $3.99 worth of Fire Cracklers on their sign in the store. If I walked into there today I would get a box of 72 Fire Cracklers for $3.99. But in the package they gave me 12 Fire Cracklers. In my book that is only worth $0.67, not $3.99. The sign said that the Silver Comet is worth $4.99, but you can buy it from Phatboy for $1.99. The sign said that the 5 Shot Roman Candle was worth $1.49, but you can buy it from them for $0.49. The sign said that we get an Emerald Storm worth $14.99, but I received an Illuminator that I could have bought for $5.99.
There $57 worth of fireworks is only worth $25.47. That can only be described as a scam.
BTW: The comments I posted on the Phatboy Facebook page have all been deleted by them so they don't want others to know how much they are scamming people.

Think about it. If everyone on this particular deal emailed them with a complaint they would 7500 emails. If they had customer service staff of 100, they would have to answer 75 emails per person. In reality they probablly have customer service of like 5 people. Pick up the phone and call them. Everyone relies on emails, Emails are great to complain but speaking to a person is a million times better.
Blaming wagjag for not responding to your email is riddiculous. Your email is not any different then the thousands they have.

Simply put, a company need to have plan to handle these situation especially if you are dealing with hundreds of cities and countless amount of customer. Dont tell me you only going to hire 5 measly people to handle emails... serious? 5 people to handle hundreds of cities? Even GTA alone needs more than 5, if not than wagjag is under staff and milking their employee. You do know those who take email also work on other customer related task, yes? 5 staff is not enough even if this whole phatboy ordeal didnt occur
Again, simply put, not answering customer email is unacceptable regardless how you see it. I agree, although I doubt they have more than 3-5 people who do customer service there. Even when I worked in customer service we answered 75-100 calls a day AND 20-50 emails (in 8 hours!).
I hate having to call Wagjag every time to get problems resolved, especially when it can easily be done by email. When I explain clearly in an email and they know of the problem with a resolution required (credit/refund/other), spending 20 minutes on the phone is intolerable.
My Mom just picked up her fireworks deal & emailed me this: "I hope you didn't pay more than $5 or so for the fireworks package, it's a sad tiny bag of stuff of what no one would want & they would have left over at the store! Really disappointed, unless it was free, I think you got ripped off!"

I see a lot of people have a complaint with this deal on this thread, I'm one of them. I just picked up mine from the Bolton location, and what I got was ridiculous. I was expecting a big box of fireworks. It said $59 value, a Roman candle, and a couple of $3.50 fireworks (That's how much they were selling them for) along with 20-30 small devils that you can buy for another $10 is not my idea of $59 worth of fireworks for $15. All this in a small grey plastic bag. I was disgusted by this "deal"
Not only this, some of my fireworks were missing. They claimed that the high demand for these caused a supply issue and they had to replace some of the fireworks with what they thought were equivalents, even though those were cheaper in terms of individual selling price.
Absolute worst deal ever. This was the first time I've ever done a group buy and probably my last at this rate. If WagJag does not give me a full refund, I will file a dispute with my Credit Card Company.

We picked ours up yesterday. I planned ahead having read this thread and printed the list of what was supposed to be in the kit. Luckilly I did, because the bag they gave me was missing half of the things that were supposed to be in it. They had already substituted things in the bag with like-things of lesser value, even when they still had the item in stock.
I had also reserved a burning schoolhouse and a few things, but that's when I noticed the flyers and stickers covering the cash register screen. It was impossible to see what they were ringing up. They also kept trying to substitute the items on my printed receipt from the website with items at less value. It was really shady. We ended up leaving the store and driving to the other Phatboy location just a few minutes away.
Even with all of the items in the kit it's still a waste of money. I ended up spending and additional $25 dollars on fireworks elsewhere and got over double of the '57 dollars worth' I received from Phatboy.
Seems like they'll of lost 7000-odd customers come Canada Day. Kind of the opposite goal of group deals, no?

I think most people(including me) were expecting a package like this plus a bunch of small stuff:
http://shop.phatboyfireworks.ca/images/1280462834420743280804.gif
The main problem is Phatboy used MSRP prices to get to $57 and not the actual prices they sell them at, so we only got about $40 worth of stuff. If you added 2 $8 items(or 3 $5 items) to the bags then u have $57 value and people wouldn't complain. Only one of my items was substituted.

The main problem is Phatboy used MSRP prices to get to $57 and not the actual prices they sell them at
If you check the prices on the sign that listed everything in the WagJag deal against the MSRP on http://www.mysticaldistributing.com/ you will find that the prices on the sign do not match the MRSP. It looks more like someone said "$57 is a good value to start with, lets make up some numbers to meet that goal." Here's two examples that just happened to be the only two I looked at, I imagine that you could find more examples if you compared each item.
Example #1: As I pointed out previously the sign said "12 FireCracklers $3.99" but the MRSP for a pack of 72 Firecracklers is $4.99 (see http://www.mysticaldistributing.com/details.aspx?prNum=99517) their selling price is 72 Firecracklers for $3.99. Giant Tiger sells a pack of $72 for a few pennies less.
Example #2: The Hot Tamali has a MRSP of $2.99 ( see http://www.mysticaldistributing.com/details.aspx?prNum=99367), Phatboy website lists it at $3.99 in store or $2.99 for a pre-order. If you visit a Phatboy store you will see that they are selling them 2/$5.00. The WagJag sign lists it at $4.99. Victoria Fireworks (see http://www.victoriafireworks.com/2011_pricelist.php) sells it for $2.50. How can Phatboy claim that we were getting a $4.99 value when the highest price they sell it for is $3.99 and the MRSP is only $2.99.
WagJag should be validating what was on the list vs. Phatboys actual prices and refunding everyone's money because it is obvious that what they promised is not worth $57. This was a scam from the beginning and WagJag did not do their work to make sure the customers were not being victimized.

As well I believe the prices on the Phatboy Fireworks website are different from in store since they give you a discount if you pre-order online

That is much better than what others got, which store was that?
I see at least 6 FireCracklers so at $3.99 a pack that is $23.94 right there. The Silver Comet is $1.99, the Rockets with Reports are $1.99 for a box of 12. The Shotgun Shell is $1.49, and the Tazmanian Devils are $0.89. The Hot Tamali is $2.49. I'm not sure which Sound Shells you got, but we can be generous and add $4.50 for the two of them. That comes to $37.29 worth of product. I do not know what the two items with the red bases are or what the two tubes above and below the Silver Comet are. Look them up on the Phatboy website and see if they add up to $19.71, if they do then you are one of the lucky few to get what Phatboy promised and what WagJag should have forced them to deliver.
In my case they gave me only 12 Firecracklers, not 12 packs, just 12. That is only 1/6th of a pack.

Kaboom seems like a more "reputable" vendor if you can call them that.
I have not bought from them, but did receive their catalog by mail sometime recently.
Also I'm pretty sure I saw a Kaboom display inside Home Depot...so that makes me think they would be a bit better-did not check the prices though.
On a funny sort of related note-
Where my parents live in Florida half the year there is an actual fireworks store open year round.

Yep you guys know it all. So why bothering arguing. Good luck with your emails. Even Flight Centre a larger company says it can take up to 48 hours to reply to your emails. But Hey, you guys are all C.E.O's and know that having a staff of 100 customer service reps is great for your bottom line. Use your heads, most of you on here everyday to find deals because your really cheap. If you owned a business you would be the same and not have a hundreds of customer service reps. Good luck on your next deal. Hope you get ripped off again.

btw, five days has passed, one more additional email was send, so did my friend, zero reply back from wagjag, calling them today to really give it to them

I just called wagjag, got 7.50 credit for the fireworks, I asked for more but they wouldn't do it. Better than nothing, plus I guess the fireworks were worth 7.50!!

What a total schmozzle this was! Better believe WJ regrets it. Assume they have some contractual recourse to PhatBoy; or likely will just retain the $ they hold back so everyone loses.

I haven't read through this thread but as I have mentioned in other threads, if you have an issue with Wagjag CALL them and don't e-mail them. I have always had my issue resolved (i.e. when company has gone bankrupt, or had an issue redeeming a voucher) right away when I have called in and staff has been very pleasant and helpful. Having said that, they don't respond to e-mails promptly, if you have a complaint call them, it will get resolved quicker and it was a very simple process.

That's great. We should all look up to you. Typical cheapskate. You get something for cheap and you still complain. This must be your job, search for deals and ***** all day long. LOL. Typical cheapskate! Too bad you don't get paid for this, because you obivously don't understand business. You must have this site as your homepage.

The problem with that. Is some of the people on here just want to email wagjag because they are not man enough to pick up a phone. You know they hide behind their mommy's skirt. They think wagjag is going to get upset if they call, so they just send an email and expect their email to be at the top of the list. Wagjag sells thousands of deals a day and I am sure gets many requests/emails a day, but they think their email goes to the top list. Or better yet it goes into Wagjag's junk mail. lol.
I have had all my wagjag issues resolved quickly with a phone call.

Wow, I'm lucky I missed out on this so-called 'deal'. It seems like nobody is happy with the deal, imagine how many upset customers there are in total that don't even post on RFD.
IMO buying fireworks in singles is the only way to go. I never buy pre-packaged sets of fireworks because they are generally loaded with the crappier effects... like the 72 firecracker lolz YAWN. Buy a couple of $10-$30 single cakes and you'll have a much more enjoyable show than 72 firecrackers.

I hope you told WagJag that you want a full refund because that is well under $30 worth of fireworks.
Called around 6pm today, and the call lasted <2 minutes and the rep was like: "Let me give you a full refund". One of my best customer service experiences ever! Also made the comment on the WagJag discussions for this deal.

Speaking of other people who don't even post on RFD, the husband of the doctor my wife works for bought two of these coupons from WagJag. When he realized how badly he had been ripped off he reprinted both coupons and used them to get two more. He said that even with double-dipping on the coupons he still did not get $114 worth of fireworks. He never checked the discussions on WagJag or Facebook or RedFlagDeals, he just checked the prices himself and figured out that this was a bad deal.
Speaking of cakes and pre-packaged deals, I occasionally buy packages because it is a cheap way to infill a show but cakes are great. This year I had two Big Bertha cakes going at the same time and it was amazing. When I asked the Phatboy person if he had any Big Bertha cakes he said "No, but we have Big Bubba, its the same thing." Big Bubba is a $13.50 cake, Big Bertha is $36.50, not even near the same thing. All together I had about $250 worth of stuff, including 9 packs of 24" sparklers for the kids but not including fuses and ematches because I had them left from before. When my new neighbour saw me setting up my firing system he ran out and bought the second Big Bertha and three other cakes for me to add in. If anyone from Phatboy is reading this (and I hope they are) then please note that you only got $80 out of that $250, the rest of the money was spent at Victoria Fireworks. When my neighbour bought his cakes he also drove past one of your stores on the way to Victoria where he spent over $70.

^^^ I think you meant Victory Fireworks =) It's where I buy my fireworks too.
It's deliberate scamming from phatboy on this one, not an accidental packaging mishap. The packages are worth far less than the claimed $57, and they didn't even have 38 items even if you count the firecrackers individually.
Can someone elaborate why the wagjag guarantee wouldn't fall under this?

Victory Fireworks (http://www.victoryfireworks.com/) is in the Toronto area. Victoria Fireworks (http://www.victoriafireworks.com/) is on Victoria Ave in Fenwick. I have heard positive things about Victory but have never bought anything there. Victoria is very good and I have bought a lot of items there over the years.

No details given this time so this may include just the plastic baggie and a sparkler?

Let me ask you guys this.
What would you consider a GOOD fireworks deal?
Are you looking for value, quality etc?
Here's another question.
Would you rather have a deal of...
A lot of fireworks, but roman candle like. (then you would purchase separately your other pieces)
OR
Very few fireworks, but high quality, with finale like bursts in the sky? (then you would purchase separately your other pieces)
Let me know.
Thanks!

My ideal of a good fireworks deal would be larger, multi shot fireworks, or cakes, say about 10/12 pieces in the package, with a high quality finale too, for approx. $20 to $25.
No one likes the smaller light up and bang once fireworks anymore.
They want a least a 10 shot roman candle and up!
Hopefully you can deliver, many, including myself were extremely disappointed with this scam deal from PHATBOY's.

Good good! So, as long as there is value and savings on "cakes" that are finale like "star" patterns, something similar to an actual fireworks show... that is something you would be happy with?
Thanks for the feedback!

Best deal was like the previous Kaboom deal where they give you CHOICE to choose what you want, the deal basically treated as gift card
this is the most ideal because if one want $30 worth of sparkler, so be it, but if one want just one final cake, so be it as well... they get business and customer is super happy, win win win ;)

$20 to $25 means the business gets $10-12.50.
So you want a company to give you 10-12 large, multi-shot fireworks or cakes with a high quality finale for $1 a piece? And the company will stay in business how?
The Phatboy deal failed because of unrealistic expectations. They were only getting $7.50 per WagJag, so it wasn't likely that they would be giving you more than $7-8 at cost (probably $20-30 at retail). Their mistake was overstating the retail value of the goods and misleading people about the number of pieces. If they had been more honest maybe they would have sold 2000 instead of 7000, but the buyers would have been perfectly satisfied because they weren't misled. The guys I spoke to told me that even though the actual retail value of the package was closer to $30 than $57, they were still losing money on each deal. Whether or not that was true I don't know, but they weren't bad guys and were flabbergasted that people were expecting to put on a spectacle of a fireworks show for $15. Not only that, but the stores are just franchisees; they had no control over the deal at all.
Based on what you're looking for, you're just being completely unrealistic with your expectations.

The 10 dollars for 25 dollars at Kaboom was very good but you should take it one step farther and try for a 20 dollars for 50 dollars........that would be awesome
But really if you just don't have little tiny firecracklers that EACH count as 1 pc of the set you'd be ok

ditto...if not uping the value of the 'GC' then at least allowing the use of two GC in one transaction maybe? If I'm still thinking correctly...the company still gets the same value in the end?

Reading comprehension fail?
#1 They (i.e. the guys at the store I spoke to) had nothing to do with the creation, advertisement, or portrayal of the deal. Your beef is with the company's shoddy and misleading marketing, not with the individual franchisees.
#2 You put words into my mouth. I said they were flabbergasted that people were expecting an epic fireworks show for $15. The guys operating the makeshift store didn't even seem to know what the advertised value of the voucher was. They just had a list of what the components of the package should be. Again, your beef is with Phatboy's head office.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the company; it was misleading advertising and they fully deserve the backlash that they got. It's just that some people have completely and utterly unrealistic expectations as well as a jaded view of what the purpose of these group vouchers is. Comparing this to the butchers deal is inaccurate and unfair. This wasn't a scam and these guys never added stipulations or refused to honor the deal. They grossly overstated the retail value of the package that was being offered (but even with an more reasonable estimate, the voucher still offered a decent savings). That's a terrible business move and led to hundreds (if not thousands) of refunds and plenty of potential future customers that will now take their business elsewhere. The Butcher's "deals" have effectively turned into robbery; do you really believe that's what happened here?

As RAEAD said, you're getting into a price point that would make the majority of people pass. The problem with fireworks deals is that good fireworks are expensive. People want to spend a relatively low amount of money and get good, expensive fireworks - it's just not possible. The best approach is to offer store credit and let people buy whatever they wish.
