I was enjoying the end of American Idol when all of a sudden CTV cuts off the ending!!!!! What the F is that all about? It's no wonder I hate canadian channels/CRTC. Thus why I also have Directv.
It is absolutely ridiculous!

I know the feeling, my issue is with NFL/Super Bowl. Shockingly, I didn't get a response from any of my complaints I sent a few years ago. LOL
Thank God for PVR's and Time Shift. I try to record/watch the West Feed whenever possible.

I emailed them and will call tomorrow for an explanation. apparently this isn't the only show they do it for. it's frustrating. sure I can watch it later hopefully with no issue but this isn't right!!! I'm recording fox west on my telus cable and also recording it fox on directv.

To be fair, America Idol should stop going over its scheduled time. Another problem that the show needs to work on.

I've noticed the same thing happens with a lot of shows on Canadian networks, which is why I also have a Directv sub. Now since I've upgraded it to HD, my Bell dish doesn't get a lot of use.

Yes, but there was still probably an overrun. If Fox and American Idol producers are going to go into an overrun then they should inform their simocasters.
There are 2 reasons an overrun occur:
They want to pop a large rating into the 10:00 hour
or
They were unable to manage their time effectively and had to overrun to finish the show.

For a taped show I could understand frustration if their is a portion cut off and rightfully it would be CTV's mistake.

Well apparently many shows on the networks do this. Its pretty obvious.

CTV shows American Idol from 8pm - 9pm
American Idol is originally on Fox and goes into an overrun ending at 9:02
CTV then shows Grey's Anatomy from 9pm - 10pm
Both shows are simocasted. So if Fox is expecting American Idol to go over its scheduled time into an overrun and they'll just shorten Bones' credits or broadcaster owned time, how is CTV supposed to compensate? Grey's is scheduled to start at 9pm. Unless CTV put a tape delay and started Grey's at 9:05 each thursday and then in turn cut 5mins out of local news which would have to start at 10:05...
Or American Idol and Fox can understand that it is simocasted and should keep each episode to 42mins.
You are correct in that other shows are simocasted, the problem is when the Canadian affliate is doing so for multiple shows on different networks and one (American Idol) keeps going over.

Simple solution - stop watching Fox shows.
After all the good shows they've cancelled prematurely, I only watch Fringe now. I've never had a problem with that show.

CTV would have advertisers seeking compensation if the advertiser saw that the show they were supporting moved to a different time slot without prior notice, or if there are fewer expected viewers because part of the show was cut off in the beginning due to a conflicting show prior to it.
The network's alliegance is solely to their advertisers.
The advertisers for American Idol got what they paid for.

I've noticed that The Big Bang Theory on CTV runs a tiny bit longer than its schedule. Usually I PVR it and it ALWAYS cuts off the last few minutes. I have to set it to record 4 minutes longer. -_-;;

FOX doesn't air any network programming after 10, right? That's when the local FOX affiliates start airing syndicated re-runs (or the news). I think that's why FOX can have AI over-runs past 10.

Either CTV or Bell messed up my recording of Law & Order:SVU finale! I went to watch it on Friday. The info gives the correct information. I realised I had already watched this episode before about 2 mins in. So I press the info button and it gives DIFFERENT information, which is the correct episode airing. I had to watch it on line because no one was re running it on Saturday. I also last Wednesday had to set another timer for Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior. The schedule looked fine on Wednesday. It was past the recording hour but the episode NEVER recorded. It was for some reason tagged as a repeat instead of new, even though earlier on the day the timer was reading it as new. I was able to set a timer for a later showing on the USA channel it's on.
