Theres no reason to hide names here, I'll stand behind my reputation. I've sold everything from cell phones to cars on this website over the years and I've had zero issues with any of the deals after they were completed. Many of the comments take note of my attittude and patience in both buying and selling.
I'll start off by stating that I have perfect feedback (30+). The buyer also has a large amount of positive feedback, so I'm inclined to believe him when he says there is a problem with the device. My concern in this situation is that the phone worked perfectly in all aspects at the time of our deal. Now after the deal has been completed there is suddenly an issue that wasn't there a day or two prior? Fine, I'll bite. My offer stands on helping to cover repair costs. Provide me with a receipt of work done and I will cover the total. If I were to do a refund on a deal I would expect the item back in the same condition.

However, it is a faulty USB socket that is defective. I checked two stores I am familiar with, and both told me they are unable to fix it. I do trust the seller, but I do believe in bad luck. I have also bought/sold numerous stuff on rfd as well which makes us both in the same position. However I trusted the seller because of his feedback that the phone worked perfectly. Sadly the USB socket was not tested. I'll gladly accept your offer to repair the phone however I don't know any stores at the moment that will repair a n900 USB socket.
However it doesn't make sense that the seller is asking me to repair the phone in order to repair it for him. In the end, I'll be short of cash even more.

I'm not asking you to repair the phone for me. You can either;
a) keep the phone and have it repaired, provide me with a receipt of the work done and ill cover the cost.
b) return the phone to me and I'll have it repaired and i'll refund your money minus the repair cost.

Step b. Why are you subtracting the repair cost from the refund?
Can you give me further details, cause in my honest opinion, the phone was damaged not by me when I first charged it. I even PMed you the first time about a similar situation but you said it was a normal prOblem.

Option A is likely impossible because what if I cannot find anybody who fix this problem?
Option B: so your telling my I should give you back the phone. You give me back my money. You then find somewhere to fix it, once it's fixed, we meet again and I give you more than what I paid?
Somehow option a and b are totally way more different.

To clarify, for B ) ill get a quote and deduct the amount from your total.
Let me know what you want to do.
