Hello Red Flag Deals members. I would like to introduce myself to the eco community. I have been a Red Flag member for several years, but just recently became involved with a new company named Frogbox. We rent reusable plastic moving boxes as an eco frienly alternative to cardboard moving boxes.

The average cardboard box only gets used 2 times in its life before being thrown out or recycled. 18-25% of cardboard boxes end up in landfills and the remaining cardboard boxes that do make it to the recyclers requires a great deal of water & energy to be recycled. On top of those issues is the fact that a lot of the original product gets lost during the recycling process. Plastic moving boxes can be used as many as 400 times. Thats 200 times more uses than a cardboard box.

My purpose for writing this post is to engage in a discussion about the eco benefits of the product and to answer any questions that the users may have. As a person who is passionate about the environment, I want to spread the word as much as I can, but its a fine line between preaching about eco benefits and marketing. While my post is intended to educate through discussion, there is no arguing that it has some 'side effects' of marketing as well. If the moderators feel that this post is too commercial, please let me know and I will edit it as per your direction. But I want to spread the word to make our planet a little better. I can't change the world all alone, but I certainly want to do my part to help in any way I can.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to an open & honest discussion.

Saw you on Dragon's Den and thought this was a great idea. Next move we do we'll be using a service like yours.

That was a great episode. That is how I first heard about the company. As soon as Doug started his pitch, I knew it was something special and he would end up getting a deal. After watching the show, I too thought it was a great idea and was so inspired by it that I contacted the comapny the next day. Thats how I got involved.

We used these (or rather, Saskatoon's version, Billy Boxx) for a move across the city last year. They were fantastic! They appeared at our old house a few days before the move. The boxes came in two sizes, so heavier things like books went in the smaller ones. They stacked beautifully in our front sunporch, so our friends who were helping up move could just pile them into the van without worrying much what was in them. A couple of days after the move, the company came and took them away again. Done!

I think they might have been a bit more expensive than cardboard, but it was worth it not to have to deal with the hassle of figuring out what to do with all the cardboard later. And they were certainly stronger and easier to work with than cardboard.

I've seen something similiar (goBac.ca) in montreal, too! Lightweight and durable, and it makes so much more sense than cardboard boxes! I especially like the delivery and pick-up option, makes for less stress during the move.

Imagine if the family that used these before you had a bed bug infestation.

Those things can live up to a year or more even if they can't find a blood meal.
